Mississippi Palisades beta?

hey everyone,

I've heard good things and finally decided to steer away from RRG/DL for a day to hit Mississippi Palisades. Any advice/recommendations? The MP entry is rather sparse. I've heard the Sentinel area is pretty cool and there's apparently a sport route somewhere...

Ted,

Id visit RRG any day over Mississippi palisades. Id also do the same for Devil's Lake. If your just looking for a new adventure to change up the scenery, as it seems, it is a nice place for top roping or old school trad climbing but most go there to TR. I have not been there enough to give too much of a critique but Sentinel Wall has a great assortment of easy trad and lots of fun top rope all in one location. My favorite climbs there are to the right, looking at the wall, where the belay area drops off. There are some 10s, and possibly an 11 if starting from the very bottom of the drop off. But Sentinel wall has everything from "5.3"(5.5) and up.

The second area I would recommend for some entertaining, but short, climbing would be twin sister wall. Sorry I can't give more information! I wish I saved this fellows number named Rick who seems to work with the park and maintain access there.

I'd go as far as to say ... Just drive about two and a half hours and visit Pictured Rocks! it is a great area for sport of all grade and several fun lines.

There is also the "fishin' crag" in Wisconsin or Necedah.

Some tougher areas i would recommend are Indian Bluffs and Hoot Bluff also in the same relative area as Pictured Rocks.

Nice, Matt! Matter B - yeah, of course I'd rather hit the gorge, but we only have time for a day trip and I'm looking to explore some new crags. Pictured rocks is on the list, but I'd rather wait until I can stay overnight and camp, as that's a lot of driving for 1 day.

Hi Matt
I frequent the palisades as I live only 30 minutes away. It's a fun spot, the sentinel has a wonderful view and is very very easy. The view makes it worth it. Twin sisters is fun as well. Also a great trad crack in the quad. One of my favs. Short and takes fear awesome! It's a nice crag for just getting out. If you need a partner let me know. I'm there a lot!

Again not 100 Percent sure but i do believe 3,4,6 are closed due to the boulder wobbling and 5,7,8,9 are also closed routes now a days? (At least that's what I have been told) Can anyone clarify or correct me if wrong?

I liked it! Was definitely something different, and the extra hour or two that you save in drive times makes it perfect for day trips from Chicago. Plus, it's sandstone...

Oh, huh...you're right. No wonder it was so slick!
