Lone Eagle Cirque Conditions

I have some friends who were interested in doing the North Face of Lone Eagle next weekend. I assume it is wet, snowy and miserable up there. But I figured I would ask to confirm. If anyone has been up there, I would love to hear about it conditions wise.

Some people have been doing objectives like the Petit already, but since the standard route on Lone Eagle has so many very large ledges, unless you want the full mountaineering experience with snow slogging I would do something lower.

You could probably ski all the way into it, approaching from the west would be your best bet rather than Pawnee.

Both approaches cross significant avi danger.

The route itself seeps until August most years. I'd be ready for snow slogging, ice climbing inside of chimneys. Summit 5.7 cracks probably caked with snow/ice.

It would be a worthy objective if you really want a challenge

Few people/if any head back there in winter. The surrounding walls hold many FAs in that cirque. I'd be interested to hear if you make it back there

To be clear, I have been in the cirque and on lone eagle a number of times (from both sides of the divide), so I understand the terrain. Just looking for eyes-on beta from someone to confirm my suspicions that it is currently a decent mountaineering challenge and probably not worth the effort to take my friends up there, who have more limited snow experience. It's great that others have the same impressions, so I am not totally off base.

Snow is projected for totals in the feet from the past couple of days and into the week. You can lookup the Indian peaks webcam, that you can control from you computer, gives an okay guide for the divide.

Good luck if you go

From friends who have been skiing out near there, I've gotten reports of a lot of that snow being on top of wetslabs

Well, it's snowing right now in the high country and raining down here. So...

Thanks guys...I have also looked at the NWS info and have determined no go.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
