Bone spur under achillies tendon

I've had a bone spur under my Achilles' tendon on the back of my heel. Lately it has acted up 3-4 times a year. I am going to see a surgeon to ask about removing it. Has anyone had this type of work done? Would you recommend it?
Thank you

Chillies Tendon? Heal or heel? Not trying to be a jerk here, just like the language to be somewhat clear?
How do you know it is a bone spur? MRI? X-ray?
I have a similar foot problem, surgeon says flushing might help, but mostly just live w/it. IS yours serious enough to cause further damage? (Mine is not, hence i live w/it)

Bone spurs at tendon or ligament insertions are typically the result, not the cause, of the problem. Calcium is deposited in an area of chronic tendinosis, reflecting longstanding unresolved damage. Talk to a sports medicine doc or a PT experienced in working with athletes, as even if you have the surgery, without addressing the underlying cause you'll end up back in the same boat.

I haven't had the surgery, and haven't actually been to a doctor about it. but it sounds like you've got a Haglund's deformity. I'm dealing with one on my right foot. I make sure to find shoes that don't put pressure on that spot, and I remove them when I do things that agitate the back of my heel, like driving. icing it helps. I have to be very picky about what climbing shoes I wear, they cannot put pressure on the bump on my heel. There's a related thread here mountainproject.com/v/achil…

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
