Pushmataha Oklahoma Bouldering Field
So I was looking around on google maps, and came across a massive boulder field in south-eastern Oklahoma. I've done a ton of research on the area, and have concluded that it has never been climbed, or at least not documented. |
Wow, depending on the scale of those boulders, that place looks amazing. I grew up in Tulsa and while I didn't climb a whole lot while living there I've never heard a mention of this place. What's the access like? Give it a look and let us know what you find! |
It looks like it will be a few miles of dirt road in the car, and a bit of hiking/biking. |
Oh, and btw the first link to that article has a reference to the size of the boulders. It describes them as pretty large. Definitely worth reading. |
How are people not super excited about this? The size of this place is insane, just looking at it from the sat image gets me going. |
Yeah, that's what we're calling it by is Rock Town. And I ran into the same problem with the climbing gym also being called that. We were planning on going later this summer, maybe around July or August. No real set date, just when we're pretty sure on a good dry spell. |

Damn....if it's not chossy it looks amazing. |

landsofamerica.com/oklahoma…
This appears to be near the site, rock looks decent but we won't know till somebody starts pulling/cleaning. Additionally, my search today came up with this. traveltips.usatoday.com/off… It looks like these should be fair game for anyone wanting to give them a look over. |

So, who wants to go take a field trip out there and do some exploring? I'm down if anyone else wants to go. |
I'd love to go down there and scope out the situation. I can't believe there aren't local OK climbers developing this place. I'd expect to see some signs of the place having been developed if the rock proves to be good, especially and at least the highest concentrated areas, the "king lines" and "obvious classics". Looks like for the foreseeable future it's quite wet in the area with heavy rains.... |
I actually posted his thread in a Facebook group called Tulsa Rock Tribe. We are talking about access right now. There are some older guys that have been down there, and they said access was "tricky." |
What have they said about the climbing? |

I live in East Texas, we decided to go to Hueco Tanks this summer, and plan a trip to Rocktown for later, as we aren't sure about the climbing there. |
Bump until someone checks this place out. |
Does anyone know if the land is privately owned? Was thinking of checking out soon but I wouldn't want to if it was less than legal really. |
My friend and I found this spot a while back on google maps as well - he posted about it on the Oklahoma MP page ( mountainproject.com/v/oklah…) and no one seemed to know anything about it. Has anyone made any progress in figuring out access/landownership? We live a ways away in Virginia, but this looks like an insane boulder field ripe for development. |
Update: I emailed Hancock timber on a lead that rock town might be on their land. Got a response back saying that it wasn't, but they believe it is owned by Campbell timber group, so that will be my next lead to follow. |
