hello, I'm a 29yo male from Gloucester MA and am looking for someone to possibly take a weekend day to teach me some trad basics. I have tope roped and bouldered for some time but want to take my climbing to the next level. I have a bit of trad gear but just don't feel totally comfortable getting on the wall with no experience. I've read the climbing anchors book cover to cover and am confident in my TR anchors. Looking for someone to give me some hands on expertise about placing gear. Would love to find some new climbing buds in the area and would gladly pay for a lesson. Thanks

Since you're willing to pay, why not hire a guide for a day? You pay a bit more for a private lesson, but it's well worth it.

I was kinda hoping it could be someone that would turn into a possible climbing partner or someone local

Im no expert but you might want to lead some sport first. or just go all out whatever you feel you are ready for. I just know I couldnt just go from bouldering and TR to full blown traid without being on the sharp end a few times.

I could be interested. How hard can you boulder/top rope?

I'm a very experienced alpine and trad climbing that just moved to Boston area from Boulder, CO. Many grade IV ascents in RMNP including routes on the Diamond and other alpine walls up to 5.11.

I'd be glad to take you out one weekend day and see how things go. Here is what I would want in return:

A partner with a good attitude that wants to learn and climb lots when we are at the wall.

You buy me guide books to Rumney and Whitehorse ledge area. (Consider this your payment for a day out, much cheaper than a guide would be.)

Any gear that we get stuck, you pay me back for.

If this sounds good send me a pm.

Good-Guy-David comes through with a solid and reasonable offer!

Props to you, David.

Give the guy a break, lower down and clean your own gear.

Seriously though, great offer. Good karma for you.

Agree with Rick, Dave's offer is about as good a deal as they come, Swantekkie. I mean, he didn't even ask for cold sodas in the trunk afterwards!!!

J,

i wanted to add some encouragement after reading this weird thread:
mountainproject.com/v/begin…

Strange advice on how to approach climbers like they are a heard of Water Buffalo on the African Savannah.

Some might see this as a serious lapse on his part.

Swantekkie, make sure you have some cold ones for him :)

Thanks Dave, I private messaged you, also I'll bring some cold "sodas"

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
