well there was that part where you said it was not damaged. That probably helped too.

So your saying nobody damaged your harness, but you just wanted to let everybody know that maybe somebody got close? Righteous indignation. Fantastic.

No, it isn't what I'm saying. as RM said, "(Lack of visual damage is not the same as lack of damage.)" what I said is that I did not see any visual damage.

Minute damage to the harness probably wouldn't be critical issue, i.e., the harness would probably still hold a fall if it was damaged, as I said. However, I am likely not the only person who's received a poorly packaged harness. In my case I've already fallen on the harness and it's held. The point of this thread is not about my case being an isolated incident, but rather whether harness should be shipped in plastic bags or boxes. When someone buys a new product from an online retailer it's reasonable to assume that the seller has the obligation to fulfill that purchase with a new, undamaged harness EVERY TIME.

As Stich said, yes, I could have returned the harness. However, I'm happy with it.

Again, the topic of this thread is not the case where my harness has no visual damage but rather should retailers pay the extra 50 cents to protect life-saving equipment from shitty couriering?

Get your "yours" right you fucking imbecile.

This is what happens when climbing goes main stream

I was trad climbing last weekend and placed what I would consider a pretty good cam. I climbed about 5 feet above said cam, and my right foot slipped. I almost whipped onto that cam! I suddenly realized, had I whipped on that cam, it could've ripped or exploded, and I would've decked! There could be damage to the cam that I could not see that would keep it from catching my fall. I called the manufacturer of said cam. The guy there was polite, and said if I didn't actually whip on the cam and the cam was not damaged since purchase, it was probably fine. He's probably right, but that's not my point- it could be damaged, and it might not hold my fall.... I am trusting my life to this gear, that is unacceptable! I am hesitant to list the manufacturer of said cam, as it is a well known and respected cam manufacturer. Needless to say I am pretty pissed off about the situation... I am considering my legal options. If anyone has any insight into where to go from here, let me know!

This is so relevant to this thread. I really appreciate your worthwhile contribution.

Thank you for taking the time to compose a well thought-out analogous situation. And by that I mean brilliantly analogous - almost perfect!

Again, thanks for sharing your story!

Unreported failures are potentially infinite. You never know. When in doubt, retire it.

Who Dat,
You ordered a product online. It arrived undamaged. You created a thread to complain that your product, while undamaged, might have been damaged in some alternate universe. I'm sorry for the loss that alternate-universe you had to undergo. Alternate-universe you must be very inconvenienced by having to send the harness back for a replacement. For the rest of us stuck here in this more fortunate reality, I guess we'll just have to keep on keeping on.
