Buying a 2015 pickup, suggestions?

Are you trolling or do you have an alternative? A 4x4 crew F150 or 1500 both price out close to $40k, while the 4x4 crew Taco is just around $30k. The Colorado is competitive on price, but of course it just came out this year.

I am glad to see the competition in the sub-full-size market growing though; when I bought, the only choices were Tacoma or Frontier.

To the OP: At 6'2" I'm thinking next time I might go for a long bed and give up the locking diff etc (OR package). I've gotten myself good-and-stuck before, but mostly on purpose for fun.

Do you have the short bed now?

Why would you have to give up on the locking dif?

Yeah, short bed. I can sleep diagonally with a platform, but it's tight.

You cannot get a double cab long bed with the OR package. (Though you can of course add one yourself aftermarket if you wanted)

You can get an access cab long bed with the OR package, if that helps.

Even two years into owning it I'm still torn on double cab vs access cab, OR vs Sport, short bed vs long...

I like it! If you named her then you take care of her.

Patrick, let's compare apples to apples. The F150 or 1500 is more truck than a Tacoma. The Tundra would be right one. My buddy has a brand new Toyota Tundra and he's loving it. The truck rides great and so far so good. The Tundra is pricy but so most 1/2 tons out right now.

Oh, I agree, apples to apples would be good- but as recently as a year ago the only other "apple" was the Frontier, so I was wondering what other trucks he was thinking of.

Granted, I got incredibly lucky, but I snagged my F150 brand-new for $30,000. It's just the XLT, nothing fancy, but it has Bluetooth, power everything, and the SuperCrew cab. Buy it at the right time and you could probably pick up a 2014 for somewhere around the same price.

I test drove the new Chevy Colorado last night. You can get the off road version with the crew cab and the long bed. I have to say, I really liked it. More horsepower, better fuel efficiency, all the modern bells and whistles the 2016 Tacoma is sure to have but the 2015 doesn't.

I'm definitely looking at the F150, especially with the new one on the horizon. Hoping the price will go down on the 14/15

I know several and and the only pick up to go over a million miles is a Chevy. 200,000 isn't really the bench mark it used to be and I bet any truck you buy today will do it as long as you take proper care. Toyota makes good products no doubt. But they come at a premium .The old Toyotas run forever is a tired bit of marketing. Toyota plays it real safe and pushes a product till its long in the tooth. They never innovate or come cutting edge. They just tow the line. Go shop what's out there you'd be suprised. I wanted a Tacoma till I sat in one. I didn't fit and wasn't comfortable at all. I'm 6ft no giant.

My office has a fleet of work trucks. Our 4 oldest trucks are 2005 Silverado 1500s with ~300K miles. Those things get driven hard by guys who don't give two shits and while the interiors are torn, and the side panels are dented, they are still kicking.

They have definitely pushed the Tacoma till it's very long in the tooth, but they also dominated that market segment completely and totally for a decade. Competition finally arose in the form of the Colorado/Canyon and now the completely redesigned Tacoma is set to be on the showroom floors by the end of the year. The last time they designed something for this market they dominated, it's not inconceivable that they'll do it again. I don't want to buy a 2015 Tacoma simply because it is outdated, but I am certainly interested in the 2016.

Ford F-150 Raptor. It's the shit.

Expensive, but worth it. I always say, don't buy cheap shoes. For your feet, pay the money. Same with trucks.

Goes without saying (I'll say it anyway) that the F-150 is America's best selling truck, and has been for several years.

MSRP on an entry level Raptor is easily 10k more than a maxed out mid sized truck. I don't doubt its awesomeness, but let's compare apples to apples. That's a lot more money and a different class of vehicle.

My Dodge 2500 had 217,000 miles when I traded it in on a 2014. I had zero issues which is better than I can say for the new one.

My 2014 gets 21mph on the highway.

My 2002 GMC has 239,000 miles and isn't even close to giving in yet. Most any mid size truck from the past decade should be able to push past the 200k mark if maintained properly.

Damn Toyota… Why don't they sell South America's favorite truck up here in North America!?

My 4wd Toyota Tacoma double cab just rolled over 400,000 miles and is still going strong.

OP, sounds like we got similar situations. Got a dying subi myself. Posted a thread not to long ago looking for input. Did you pick something up yet?

Tacoma - expensive but get the resale value and
Great reliability. Get a manual

Frontier - most people I know love theirs (but
Older)

Colorado- It's a Chevy pickup so what's up front end rebuilds

F-150- best selling truck but resale isn't as
Good and the new ones have a lot of change

Raptor- are you 40+ and to manly for you midlife crisis sports car? You can build a nicer "prerunner" for less

Dodge Eco diesel- great for lots but. EGR, DPF. oil changes go
Up and so does the rest of That Engine Maintenance. But you can tow and the mileage is good. $$$

Wait for the 2016 Tacoma and
Give her a go

Ha never-mind OP. Saw you commented on my post. Sounds like you went with the Colorado. Congrats. Keep us posted on how it holds up!
