ahhhahahahaha.... you know that she's led super burly, way the fuck runout 5.14+ TRAD routes in the Dolomites right?? Uh, no I guess you don't know that. Keep posting Davis, you're making yourself look more stoooopid with every one.

I think Davis Meschke's ideas about the significance of hard sport climbs both misses the point of the article and is an indicator of his age and level of experience.

I believe the point of the article is that despite the fact that rock climbing is generally dominated by males, Sasha is shaking up the status quo by climbing things that have historically only been done by men. While I think this thesis is short-sighted and largely inaccurate (Lynn Hill and the free nose, right?), I also think there's some truth to it.

Mr. Meschke is 24. I started climbing around that age, and I started as a trad climber. I thought I was so cool, and that the sport climbing pros would be overcome with fear if faced with some of the 5.8 cruxes I encountered at lumpy ridge. Fortunately for me, I was spared some of the embarrassment that Davis will probably experience in a few years because back then mountain project was called climbing boulder and you could make posts anonymously.

Hang in there Davis. Sport climbing is really fun, and is a nice diversion from the fear that's associated with going for it above a dubious cam.

What's "fucked" is the fact that sport climbing is taking precedent over the more commiting and extreme things being done in climbing. Anyone can pre-clip and pre-rehearse a climb and then climb it on camera. Anyone can learn how to tie a figure 8 and climb bright plastic holds at any level. But please tell me how great she is cause she's a world champion at pulling on small resin holds.
Why is it only (American) Trad climbers that are so narrow minded and self-important? Is it all Bachar's fault or is Robbins the originator of this "I'm so much better than everyone else" attitude?

I like placing gear, but while "Sport climbing may be neither", frankly, "Trad" is just pathetic.

I'm a climber, period.

Sierra Blair Coyle is an embarrassment to the sport. Sasha is a frickin worker. I'm not that inspired by her because I'm not especially psyched on overhanging crimps. (I'm also more inspired by Steph or Lynn or MSG.) But I don't think Sasha is a bad face for the sport. She works her ass off and crushes.

First female ascent of Bellavista on Cima Ovest...Obviously she is nothing more than a plastic pulling sport climber.

Not sure if this is mentioned but she climbs ice also and has a killer core! Ripped!

Sasha is an inspiration to many women, myself included. She works hard plus she takes her school very seriously. None of the athletes whose names have been thrown around up in this thread, have any other job than climbing. I think it's amazing that she competes and performs at elite level, while being a full-time student at an Ivy League institution.

whoa there, don't start generalizing people by what they climb. i may be the exception, but i know people who climb mainly trad and others who climb mainly sport, and the sport climbers are the ones that are flamboyant and cocky. the trad climbers just watch the sport climbers and giggle. i'm not saying all sport climbers are cocky douches but, in my limited experience, they tend to be. and yes i know that what i just said was highly hypocritical. but it's okay because i crush 5.7 on plastic

Using snake sheddings as condoms has been around since about 3000 years ago when it was traced back to Egyptian cultures. Should we use those instead of rubbers?
this is pretty funny

Nice work trolling Davis.

Sasha was just out in my neck of the woods working at getting Moonlight Buttress free. She is also branching out to ice climbing.

I think that we will be seeing some cool things out of her.

As far as redefining the sport.... Maybe.... I'm not sure that she is there. She is definetly elite though, and an inspiration for lots of women climbers. I respect that.

What everyone seems to be forgetting is that we are arguing about te phrasing that some douchenozzle on the Huffington Post used to describe one of our elite woman athletes.

I doubt the author knows who Lynn Hill is, so let's chill out.

Those are some strong words. Why is she an embarrassment to the sport?

Also, Mayan Gobat Smith pretty exclusively sport climbed for her early career and more recently starting free climbing big walls. So you probably wouldn't have been that inspired by her in her 20's.

Doli's got it right.

C'mon Davis, give us some more of your clueless ranting.

There was a comment about her being a full time student at an Ivy League school.
I'm not sayInfo that she's not good at what she does, and I'm not saying that she doesn't deserve respect for climbing. But a full time student in non-fiction creative writing? Give me a break. Let's stop pretending collegiate athletes don't get special treatment, regardless of them being on a football team or a famous climber.
Let's stick to what the Huffington article was about, hard sport climbing.
