Hey folks,

Just locked in the flights and I am headed to Kaly from May 19-30. I'll be solo and would love some beta! Anything you want to spray at me about the best routes (6a/6c+ range), hangouts, and especially a good place to stay would be appreciated!

Right now I'm looking at Lambrinos or Kalymnos Village - anyone have experience with these?

Thanks!

Just got back a week ago. I stayed at Lambrinos last year, and it is great, but a little higher priced than many studios. Depends what you want. There is a cluster of a bunch of studios (Fatolitis, Dimitrakis, Avra, Irene, Sakis and more) around Fatolitis place which is a central bar/cafe hangout for climbers. The area is a little noisy at night. If you want a little more quiet, Lambrinos and Armeos is good.

If you don't mind a walk or are renting a scooter anyway, some places in Myrties can be had a little cheaper. If you want to rent a scooter, some places require a motorcycle and international drivers license, some just an international permit, some you can sneak by without, but this is risky if anything happens. By law, you need the international permit to drive in Greece.

6a-c+ is kind of my range and what I was seeking out on this trip. 6a-b can be had at a lot of locations. Most in this range are slabby face routes, but some locations have 6b-6c+ "wall climbs" which tend to be vertical to slightly overhanging, then there are the cave, tufa/overhangs.

These immediately come to mind, but are not the only places for this range:

Slab: Poets, Afternoon, Iliada, Arhi, Ghost Kitchen, Stankill.

"Wall climbs": Spartan, Stankill, Iannis, Iliada. Arginonta

More overhanging, cave, tufa to 6c+: Panorama, Odyssey, Ghost kitchen, Secret Garden, Arhi.

QRohlf,

I will be solo from the 27th to the 31st. I'm flying into Istanbul and could meet you for a few days if you're looking for a partner to share belays with. I too, climb 6a-6c and could definitely enjoy the company. I'm meeting my Gf in Crete on the 31st and could climb there first with you if you have interest in that. I'm pretty flexible for those few days and looking for climbing partners. Let me know your thoughts. I'm awaiting the delivery of the guide book from the American Alpine Club's library.

Hey all,

I'll be in Kalymnos(18th-20th) and Crete(22-24th). I will be with my wife in Kalymnos but she wont be climbing much. In Crete she will be in conferences during the day. Let me know if any of y'all are interested in getting together, let me know.
