Are you asking about backpacking sites or car camping spots? Since this is a climbing site I'm guess you would like climbing near by? Hard to beat the Table Rock Parking lot for car camping. There is one spot there that is better than the rest. It is back in the cut a little compared to the rest, but still near the other spots, so if there are a lot of folks camping it can suck. Especially if there are boy scouts around.
For backpacking/climbing it is hard to beat the top of the prow. One of my favorite spots. Better go light though as it is hard to bring camping and climbing stuff in one trip, although it isn't too far and I've made two trips in the past before. Now that I hammock it I could probably do it in one go even with a decent trad rack, especially if you have more than 2 people going.

The camp spot just about on top of Dopey Duck, looking over into the Tilted World, on top of Shortoff.

Bump on this. Looking for car camping sites with quick access (short drive fine) to climbing. Is it legal to camp at the Table Rock Parking lot without a permit? Is it legal to camp along the road near Shortoff Mountain without a permit? I understand you need one to enter as a backcountry overnight user in the Linville Gorge Wilderness-do none of these areas along the road fall in the Wilderness designation?

Specific spots/roads would be much appreciated. Looking to go this weekend-don't care if they aren't established spots, just want to pull off and set up a tent and not be literally on the road if possible. Thanks.

The trail to lettered rock ridge. Park at the small turnout parking area and head NE or away from the gorge for about 100 meters into the woods. Theres a huge overhanging boulder that shelters an entire tent with a fire ring and natural rock harth. From here you are within minutes of hawksbill, sitting bear, table rock

TTT. Anyone have info regarding locations/legality of table rock car camping? Cheers.

A camping permit is required within the wilderness area. I'm pretty sure if you park at TR and hike the trail away from TR and into that camping area you're in the wilderness area, but I'd double check with a map because I haven't camped right there before. I believe all of the pulloffs to the left on the road up to TR are not in the wilderness area and you won't need a permit for those.

If you park at Table Rock, it's a 3 minute walk to the easy camping. You do technically need a permit. I've slept maybe 100 nights there, and I've never been asked for a permit. I see people sleeping in the beds of their trucks in the lot all the time with no issues. I'm not condoning it, but just sayin how it is.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
