REI and TC Pros

Any one have any inside info on what's up with REI and TC Pros?

I have a gift certificate for REI, and have had it for a month. But the three sizes I wanna try on are sold out for a thousand miles from my home (pretty much all of the US, actually). The one size I probably want is backordered online, too.

Is REI discontinuing this shoe? Should I use the gift certificate for something else? Or is this just a lame glitch in REI's supply chain?

There's something going on with Sportiva stock. Only a few sizes available anywhere - and not just on Tc Pros.

It's not just your REI buddy.... I've heard many people and places not have them in-stock. I went to REI in San Diego and the worker said they have a hard time getting them. I've wanted to get the Katana's also. But, unless you're sold on the TC Pro's, the Sportiva Mythos have treated me very well. Heard horror stories of them stretching too much, but, have treated me great. Even got me up my very first 5.11c route, smearing & very limited edging was all I had.

I ordered some a couple weeks ago and they were backordered but showed up in 1.5 weeks.

my bike shop was complaining of losing inventory from a shipping/freighting strike, maybe thats to blame?

Dock workers strike in on the west coast has brought havoc to many supply chains. It's over but they say it will take a while to catch up to normal. I know BD and Yeti (bikes) got pretty screwed.

I had forgotten about the dock thing, Nick, that's probably it!

I already have a pair of Mythos, Colin, and a pair of Miura VS. I want something a bit more all-day than the Miura, but able to edge really well, which my Mythos are only so-so at.

Yeah, i've heard the same on the edges. I just picked them up, so their brand new. I know it won't take long to wear out the soles. For now they toe smear great, but I'm dead set on finding a snug pair of TC Pro's. I'm gonna be climbing ALOT more frequently for longer periods so i wanted a shoe that works for the duration. See what happens with the shipping company strikes and see if that changes anything.

Sure and TC wore them when he climbed the wall of early morning light. So now everyone wants to be like Tommy

I want a high top. I don't much trust Evolve or Mad Rock as makers of great shoes. I'd love to buy a pair of Kaukulators, but alas they are hard to find. So TC Pro it is, I guess. I've thought about Ballet Golds but I have a gift certificate for REI, so my choices are back to... TC Pros. There you go.

The Evolv Astromans are legit as high tops. Head to head with the TC's, they may not be as sensitive but if you are looking at them more for proper high top applications (wide climbin'), you will thoroughly enjoy them.

Dock workers strike was on the West Coast. Very few sportiva rock shoes are imported through western seaports as most of them are manufactured in Italy. The TC and the Muira are both made in Italy. They would come through eastern seaports that were not having any dock worker issues.

HERE'S WHAT I DID!!! And it worked just fine
Call the REI 800 number and describe your size range (I picked 41.5 to 43.5. Tell them the closest store to you, and they will send all the entire range (5 pairs in this case) to the store. They contact you when they arrive. Try them on and buy the ones that fit. The rest go back into their inventory. The only catch is they charge you credit card for all of them and refund you for the ones you don't take home. It works well though
Cheers,
Tev

From what I've been told over and over, La sportive can't keep up with the demand for their TC PRO shoe. I agree with Weston L. regarding the evolv astroman shoes. They are awesome, especially after a resole with 5.10 c4

I somehow got a pair of anasazi hi-tops for $50 and they are great crack boots with way better edging than my mythos.

I wanted the TC pro but for $50 vs $170 I can drop the illusion that I'm alex honnold.

have the anasazi lace-ups too and they have TONS of edging power, decent enough to smear in, but not what I'd call an "all day shoe." better than miuras though both in comfort and smearing.

I back ordered a pair as well when the last 20% off sale was going on. Took about 3 weeks to show up. They're starting another 20% off sale on May 15th (code 20SAVE)

Adventure 16 San Diego had quite a few sizes and they're 25% off right now. I was just there today and saw most of their cams and climbing gear is 25% off as well.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
