Moving to Barcelona

Hi everyone,

It looks like there's a high possibility my wife and I will be moving to Barcelona in the near future. I received a job offer there and am in the process of finalizing everything. I have two questions regarding the climbing there:

1) I know there's world-class sport climbing near Barcelona, but there's not a ton listed on Mountain Project. Is there a better resource for climbing in Europe?

2) Since it's not always possible to get outside, does anyone know of the best climbing gyms in the city? Some quick research turned up a ton of gyms, but it's been harder to figure out how good they are.

Thanks!

I'm envious, Barcelona is a great place to live and climb. I have a couple friends there. I'm not a gym person so I can't comment. But you will have no trouble finding guidebooks in English. Rockfax has some and another good source is Lleida Climbs: lleidaclimbs.com/

My favorite areas within a couple hours are Riglos, Monte Ordesa, Monserrat, and Siurana. Have fun.

Margalef is a fantastic place for climbing - cca 2hrs from Barcelona - with over 500 routes.

This site might have some additional info...

Regarding gyms, from an article in Mens Journal" "Sharma, who is opening a state-of-the-art gym in Barcelona, Spain, in July."

I lived in Barcelona a few years ago and it is a great city, unfortunately I hadn't yet taken up climbing at the time so never took advantage of that aspect, but you will love it there. Good luck!

I just returned home from a week-long climbing trip in Siurana. Beautiful place! Very concentrated. Easy approaches. Very tall routes. Awesome nearby campground and town with comfortable living. The crags can get crowded.
