Camping suggestions near Boulder
|
I am going to be coming to the Boulder area in July for my honeymoon. We are both primarily into bouldering, and are looking for a sight that has a minimum of showers and running water at a central location. Ideally, we would love to stay in a cabin or something so that we don't have to haul our gear on the plane, but the most important thing is that we want to be relatively close to bouldering and town. We would even stay in a hotel in town if anyone knows of a place that is relaxed and affordable. Does anyone have any suggestions? I haven't been to Boulder in about 15 years, so I am not sure where to start... |

There is not much camping near Boulder. Nearest camping is probably 20-30 minutes. I know this topic has been covered before on the forum where some suggestions were listed. I recommend starting there. |

You can try El Dorado Canyon State Park, which has cabins. |

There's bouldering at Flagstaff near Boulder, but seems like RMNP is the better choice in the summer. Perhaps some actual boulderers will chime in. I'm more of a route person. |

I would second Estes Park. There are many nice cabins you can rent and its in a gorgeous setting. The bouldering there is top notch and you have access to spectacular hiking, fishing, and trad climbing. The camping there is also very nice if you do that. The town has a few great places to eat out as well and has a good gear shop. Its also not that far from Fort Collins and Boulder if you want to get out there. RMNP also has at least one dedicated guide book for its bouldering which is nice. Wherever you end up, Rocky Mountain Ntnl Park is defiantly worth a visit. Have fun! |

Thank you all so much! I expanded my search with your advice and I think that I found two potential great places to stay. Thanks again! |

Assuming a honeymoon splurge- Flagstaff House is still as good as ever, elegant and expensive with a great view. Frasca is on east Pearl, great reputation for modern, creative cuisine. The Kitchen on west Pearl is also well regarded and won "Best Dessert" in this year's Best of Boulder. Blackbelly won for best new restaurant. Focuses on locally sourced ingredients. Haven't eaten there yet, ask next week if this appeals to you. |

Estes Park no question. The snow will be melted and the classics should be good to go.Get a place ASAP as it is busy in summer. |

There is also the new kid in town... |
