Carlsbad Climbing Destinations?

Hey everybody, I'm new to New Mexico. Just moved into Carlsbad. I'm wondering if there are any solid sport climbs under 3 hours away? Other places similar to Last Chance Canyon? I'm new to lead climbing, with only 2 easy 5.6 leads under my belt. Are there climbs in this area where I can hike to the top and set up an anchor? I'd rather headpoint some routes before I try leading in a new area. I appreciate this community and any constructive feed back. Thanks!

Along with Last Chance, Sitting Bull and The Tunnel have great sport climbing fairly close by. The Tunnel shady side does have some easier stuff, but neither area has easy topropes however. Hueco Tanks is not too far for you, and has some nice easy routes along with the world class bouldering.

Thanks for the response. I've been looking forward to hitting up Hueco Tanks ever since I learned I was moving out here. Finally getting time off to hit it up tomorrow, assuming I get there before the 10 first-come-first-serve spots fill up. Otherwise, I'm bound for Pena Blanca!

There's a small community of climbers in the area, about 4, that you can get ahold of for partners. There's also a developed area that's closer to Carlsbad called dark canyon, it's got 10 to 15 really nice sport routes and some bouldering.
