The RMI team has reported all ok at camp 1. They expect injuries at base camp.

At least 18 confirmed dead on Everest. Massive avalanche in the Khumbu Icefall again that carried a long ways towards base camp. Between 400-1000 people could be stranded at base camp. Injured survivors received for medical attention elsewhere showing extreme injuries with multiple reports of many people with bad leg fractures including many with both legs broken.

What a tragedy in Kathmandu and the mountains, especially after how hard the local population was affected by last year's Everest tragedy.

These two articles have a pretty good summary of the Everest-specific news. Such a tragedy, thoughts are with those who are in Nepal, not just climbers, but the whole country.

Sorry this is pretty far off topic, but I had no idea climbers could tweet and text from base camp and camp 1.... there is really cell coverage out there?

Very sad. Been a rough couple of years for the Everest scene.

Even worse, those that lost their lives in Katmandu.

Sat phones and supposedly there is now a cell tower at the base camp. At least the press is getting the description right and calling the them hikers ...
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
