Climb Buddy app - of interest?

Hi Colorado climbers,

I'm a UK-based climber who recently launched 'Climb Buddy' - a free app (on android and iOS) to help you find people to climb with - see buddyseries.com

It's working pretty well so far, and I'm keen to spread the word. There are a number of climbers already using it in CO - see the blue pins in the photo - and I wondered if you guys would find it helpful?

I'd be delighted if you'd try it out and let me know what you think. But, I also understand if Mountain Project serves you well and the app is not for you!

Anyone who'd like to try it - I'd welcome your feedback :)

Cheers,
Caroline Finucane

great idea. I would like to see a website side too so i can use either the app or do it through a web browser.

Just downloaded it. It's a well put together app and I hope it takes off. It's spelled "climbing center" though, and what the hell is this kilometer jazz anyways?

Haha, yeah, might need an American setting with miles and American spellings.

This could actually be really sweet. I hope it takes off.

I wouldn't be opposed to a mod. I mean, you wouldn't try to sell ketchup flavored chips (crisps?) in America. OP?

I just downloaded it and it seems like a cool idea. I would say Americanize it a bit and offer a lot more options for climbing experience from gym, sport, boulder, trad, ice, alpine, different ratings and then the ability to filter by those settings. For example you're looking for a partner who is a trad climber than can lead 5.9 (I think 5a in the UK). Otherwise shows promise.

Ha! If you guys overtake the number of UK climbers using it, I'll officially change it to 'center' :)
Thanks for the feedback and warm responses. And, great suggestions Brendan - I'll take these on board for the next release!

Found if you are zoomed out or have moved the map and you click on a buddy or check messages or anything else and then go back to the map, the map is re-centered and zoomed back into your location instead of maintaining its previous location and view level.

I'd also change experience into years and add Lead/Follows options for Trad, Rock, Ice and Aid like Mountain Project does for the partner finder.

Lastly I'd make a note that the request for the birthday is just to show age and that your actual birthday isn't shared. It's not something people like to share publicly for identity theft reasons.

I second this. I think you should be able to share as little or as much as you like in your profile options. For example, I couldn't complete the set up without adding a picture. I should have the option to not share a picture.

Caroline, I hope you find all theses suggestions constructive.

Very constructive, thanks! Although please note that your DOB is not displayed to others - the app simply calculates and displays your age from the DOB you enter. This way it updates automatically as a birthday goes past!
Cheers guys,
Caroline

Correct. I noticed that afterwards. I would say at the time of entering that there be a note that that's what it's for and that it won't be displayed.

Hey Carolina,

I just downloaded your app and I dig it! I discovered it while researching an upcoming trip to the UK and possibly the EU. I'm looking for a way to find potential partners while traveling. To that end, I'm wondering if there is a way to search for partners outside of my current location? For example searching for partners in the UK while still at home in Santa Fe, NM. Perhaps it's already built in and I missed it?

Thanks!

Hi Haj
Thanks for the positive feedback - it means a lot! :)
Yes, if you swipe the map to move yourself to another location, you can then directly message or broadcast to climbers from that new location. Just move the map, and it'll automatically refresh and pull through climbers from the new geolocation.
So glad you're finding it useful - let us know how you get on.
Best,
Caroline
