I will enjoy clipping your fixed link cam.

These are awesome and certainly have their place.

These shine on mixed lines where you need to carry some gear.

Or on alpine where you aren't covering a ton of technical terrain but will need a piece or two.

Or on long moderates where you are going light on gear.

Or aiding and sliding them without having to change pieces out.

They definitely have their place.

I was kinda psyched that I bootied one of these a couple weeks ago. Now I feel like I should climb back up there and re-stick it.

Supercams are basically the same range as BDs, but with a better gaming angle with more holding power. They still don't have close to the range of a link cam.

I agree that they have their place, but I wouldn't buy them. You are buying a piece of protection that is likely going to be in charge of saving your life some day. If you were to say "should I buy this BD cam or Metolius cam" everyone would say that both would be great options. However, I think that having a cam with such mixed reviews and a history for becoming mangled is a pretty big red flag. Again, I know that they have their places for desperation pieces or building anchors, but if I were building a rack or wanted to have a solid dependable piece to take a whipper on, I would stay away. Again, I know that there are a lot of people that have used them and taken falls on them with no problem, but that's kind of a pass-fail approach that just isn't worth it in this case.

how many folks here actually whip on their link cams a few times?

ive fallen on all of em ... as have my partners ... the purple one is one of my most fallen on pieces seeing 30+ falls by now

heres one of my partners whipping on it last year

purple link cam whip !!!

that said you HAVE to place em properly ... make sure its in the direction of the pull and throw a draw on em if you can

its great for multi where you may not want to bring up a full set of doubles, but want a "just in case" piece ...

for example the purple link cam is the same size as the blue, grey and purple camalot for roughly the same weight as the purple

like all other cams you need to place em properly and understand their limitations

just like X4s of which there seems to be quite a few "broken" ones on da intrawebz

;)

Folks used to swear by DDT, then Rachel Carson had to go ruin it for everyone.

Not too many ever swore by link-cams, then Google had to come along and ruin it for those who did.
Link-cam

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
