When is a good time to start climbing outside, is there a way to get some information about the snow or wetness at each wall?

Or can any of you locals help me out? I know its been warm in Plattsburgh, but probably not as nice in the mountains.

Any help would be appreciated, I'm getting anxious to climb.

Call the Mountaineer in Keene Valley.....lots of climbing in the Dacks should be dry right now though.

Wallface is in the heart of the high peaks and will not be easily accessible right now. Streams are high, everything will be wet, mud, slush, and walls dripping for a bit more. Early to mid May-ish is a more likely time to attempt a visit to Wallface.

Stuff closer to the road is your best option(s) right now. Think Creature walls, Jewels and gems, beer walls, etc. The creature wall approach will even be real wet right now. Then some climbs will be wet and others not. Chapel Pond Slab same thing, likely still has water flowing down in spots because Round Mt is above and still has snow melting off it. Lake George and southern crags more likely to have dry rock.

Be sure to check Peregrine falcon closures before you go. Shelving Rock is closed already:

Hey hey, just got back from climbing in the Valley today. Surprisingly, we don't have much snow left in the passes (Cascade and Chapel Pond). Beer Walls are totally dry, as is the Spiders Web, Creature wall, and pretty much anything on the north side of the pass (south facing). The southern side of the pass, namely the Chap slabs, Tilman's area and the Tanager face are still wet. Pitchoff is bone dry as well, from the Roaches area all the way to the start of Pete's. Enjoy!

Dylan, that is awesome thank you very much! I am just gonna stick to checking out the Southern aspect crags, let me know if any of you are climbing, maybe we can meet up within the next few weeks.

On a separate but related note, are any of you willing to teach me how to lead? I have a good amount of experience with TR, setting up anchors, belay escapes. But I have started to buy some trad gear and would like someone to learn from.
