My wife and I are looking to do a Grand Canyon backpacking trip, and were recommended to use the following guide service wildlandtrekking.com/grand-…

I'm looking at the cost, and thinking that we could buy most of the gear we don't have and follow the trails ourselves.
We've already got a tent, decent bags, stove, Just wanted to check to see if anybody had gone with a service or not with a service and had any recommendations.

Thanks

First: Wildland is great. If you get the chance, request Ryan Pellizoni or Alex Wood. Both are climbers and both are excellent guides in the canyon.

Second: You don't really need a guide, however the company would take care of all the logistics and cooking, which can be really nice. Think of it as analogical to a resort. The guides are super knowledgeable and avoiding dealing with the permits is worth a few bucks all by itself.

It will be a great trip whatever you decide, so have fun. I love the canyon!

Depending upon the experience of you and your wife, I agree that you may not need a guide. I have been on extended trips there 4 times and can recommend some easy, no chance to get lost camps. These easy ones are generally on the main trails but other simple options exist, either way... PM me if interested.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
