I love the people who take to time to put up all the great sport routes so no offense, but this was interesting.

The bolt and boulder were right of the Playin' Hooky belay at P2.

That would make a fun "make a caption" photo.

Hmmm….could be an advert for a new slacklining company:

I've seen a couple of things like this. Two times, I've seen boulders that were part of an anchor but have fallen (one time conformed by finding the flattened 2nd bolt and boulder and one time talking to an old timer who pointed to the route and rock scar where the boulders fell. Any chance the rock came from above?

I know that bolt! I wondered about it also. Also, no, the boulder doesn't seem to have dislodged from above. It looks pretty clearly like it was bolted in the position it's in.

Saw this just yesterday. Same exact question.

Looks like an attempt at controlled trundling.

Ha! when I saw the title, this was exactly the bolt that came to my mind! What's not shown in the photo is the double-bolt anchor just to the left edge of the photo, maybe ten feet away from the boulder. This is the belay station for the last pitch of Black Gold.

Good morning,

Yes same spot, the belay station is 10 ft away and I could not get it in the photo. Thanks for mentioning that, as it adds to the puzzle.

If you chained it to the wall it could be the CCC rocker block haha.

Any chance someone put it in for a belayer belaying a heavier leader? You know, sit in the comfy spot, clip the bolt to your harness, belay me, if i fall i don't take you for a ride. I have seen it before, just don't know this route.
We don't usually like to just spend bolts....

I have a picture with the rock in the background from August 18, 2013, and the bolt is not there, but it was there on September 26, 2014. Hmm... Don't know what's going on up there, but it's a bit strange.

The anchors for Thelma and Louise at North Table are on a detached block. The block there is a bit smaller

Could it be someone is planning on removing or moving this block since it is near an edge they are using the bolt to anchor into the block so as to grab it without it potentially falling on the road below?

The boulder probably weighs half a ton or more, and is 200+ feet in the air. Moving it would be a very ambitious project.

If you'll pardon my ugly mug, there it is with a little more context. And sans bolt.

Muscrat- I doubt it. If I remember, the route going above this bolt is slabby 5.6 or 5.7. Generally speaking, folks into development aren't projecting 5.7 slab and taking whipper after whipper after whipper on it. :)

Tim- so we know the bolting aliens arrived sometime between 8/18/13 and 9/26/14. We're so much closer to finding them...

I have no idea how people do the cool "quote text from other people" thing. sad day.

First Track Jack · · Evergreen, CO · Joined May 2014 · Points: 140

I am glad to have started an interesting thread and not one where everyone gripes.

Teece303, nice mug but now we need another picture with the belay anchors hiding behind your back 10 ft from boulder.

I agree that thing is to hard to lower without some serious pulleys and rope skills. Way too risky and it is not going anywhere fast.

Maybe karma if someone pulls it out next passing by.......

Look to the right of the comment box, "quote". CLick on it. Yeah, took me a while to see it too!

Someone could just ask Alen since he put up Black Gold.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
