Do you meet these criteria, Chad?

"Need for treatment — The clinician will review the description of the tick, along with any physical symptoms, to decide upon a course of action. The Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) recommends preventive treatment with antibiotics only in people who meet ALL of the following criteria:

Attached tick identified as an adult or nymphal I. scapularis (deer) tick
Tick is estimated to have been attached for ≥36 hours (based upon how engorged the tick appears or the amount of time since outdoor exposure)
The antibiotic can be given within 72 hours of tick removal
The local rate of tick infection with B. burgdorferi is ≥20 percent (known to occur in parts of New England, parts of the mid-Atlantic states, and parts of Minnesota and Wisconsin)
The person can take doxycycline (eg, the person is not pregnant or breastfeeding or a child <8 years of age)

If the person meets ALL of the above criteria, the recommended dose of doxycycline is a single dose of 200 mg for adults and 4 mg/kg, up to a maximum dose of 200 mg, in children ≥ 8 years."

Here's some sensible information from the AMC. outdoors.org/publications/o….

I use spray-on permethrin treatment on pants and socks and deet on ankles and exposed skin. You have to reapply the permethrin every four or five washings. It definitely works; I've found dead ticks on treated pants after bushwacking.

When you get home, clothes go directly into the dryer on high for ten minutes---before washing them! Ticks can survive the washing machine, even with hot water. See commonhealth.wbur.org/2013/….

Yes. There are multiple brands, but permethrin is permethrin.

The stuff is toxic if you breath it. You should only treat clothing outdoors on a windless day, and hang it outdoors to dry.

Not 100%, but based on the black color and shape of its mouth and legs, Im leaning towards a nymph or adult deer tick. It was engorged and very swelled with blood, so kinda hard to tell. Since it was so engorged, Im thinking that yes, it was attached for 36+ hrs. Time since exposure was around 48+ hrs. No pain or discomfort until the day of removal. Then, symptoms were a light rash on my stomach, radiating pain in my arm near the bite and I did feel extreme fatigue once.

I got Lyme in Summer 2013. No bulls eye or other indication until the lethargy set in.

Got some permethrin for this year. Wondering if I should apply it to my rope bag.

Sounds like the doxy use is probably justified then. Might as well take it (ALL OF IT!) since you already have it.

Was bit by a Tick up in the Washington (the state, not the political whorehouse) climbing on Snow Creek Wall. Didn't realize for 3 days till I picked it off my right leg and witnessed it slowly dwindled down the shower drain. Washing away the dreams of figuring out if it had lyme. That day and the following were clouded with shrubbiness and blatant fatigue. Oh and my right knee was achey as an old faucet (and i'm 17). I have the red target rash, reminds or the Target shopping place thingy. The doc said I could have lyme, considering I have almost all the sign and symptoms. So he put me on Doxycycline. Hopefully ill feel better but well see in 14 days.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
