6 year old new rope usable?

Yo yo yo,
so the store at which I work has a Mammut half rope dry treated (can't remember the exact name) that was just chillin on our climbing section wall for about 4 or 5 years, then someone noticed it was old, took it off the wall and set it back in storage (where it's been for a year). Is this rope usable? it wasn't really in the sun very much, and never came out of its packaging. Should I trust my life on it or just use it for arts and crafts?
Thanks
Luke

Luke, that rope will perform exactly as well and with as much integrity as it would have 6 years ago.

Anyone who says different doesn't know what they're talking about.

Most rope companies will state that a climbing rope is good for 15 years in its packaging.
Direct quote from Edelweiss: "The total maximum lifetime (storage before use + lifetime in use) is limited to 15 years." Again, that is STRAIGHT from a well known manufacturer of climbing ropes.
Mammut themselves say their ropes are good for 10 years.

They shouldn't have put it back in storage, but instead put it out on sale for 50% off.

The rope is definitely bad, you'd better send it to me for proper disposal, I'll even pay shipping just to make sure that you don't try to use it and hurt yourself. I'm just that nice of a guy.

I asked my son, who is a materials science engineer. He says he'd trust it same as a new one.

Wow, that's original. You think that one up all by yourself? :-)

OP - the rope is fine; tell the boss you'll take it for 50% of MSRP.
