Not surprised at all by this latest development. Dude reeked of sketch.

Stealing is not dirtbagging.

Ryan, how come you haven't chimed in and come to your own defense? Are these accusations false? If they were, I'd think you would have denied them vociferously.

And it's a really good day when I can use the word, "vociferously."

Ho, man! This is a funny turn of events. The OP should retitle the thread "Tomorrow-Gear I possessed but am unsure how I acquired, perhaps stole...uh, nevermind."

What say you, Ryan? Come explain yourself.

I believe Ryan is in Yosemite right now. Probably somewhere up El Cap or doesn't have a reliable internet access ...

Isn't this the guy that set the broom on fire and stuck it inside someone's screen door?

Can't recall, I think it was. Either way, maximum lulz.

I went back and searched my email. I sent him funds via PayPal in return for gear on 2/7/14 and on 2/21/14 I wrote him to say that said gear had arrived and was as expected.
Interesting to see what's led to the shift towards chossy integrity.

Ryan Coon and I have been climbing a lot for the past couple months. That is until he left to Yosemite I guess. I have been trying to reach him but haven't been able to for about a month. It has been somewhat the same with me as it was for Rico. I treated him like a brother and he treated me the same. Super heartfelt, caring and compassionate. He has kicked it at my house for a while off and on and is honestly one of the most fun dudes to have around. I have become pretty close with him. So yeah, I hope none of this shit is true. Btw Rico, since I had climbed with Ryan a ton And I became familiar with his climbing rack. He had no mastercams, idk if that helps however....

Ryan buddy, I'd love to hear from you man. I bought the beloved 3.5 and it's ready to be put to good use! Can't wait to get out with you again!

I would also encourage the rest of you mountainproject forum stalkers to not jump to conclusions when something hasn't been proven and when it's someone you don't even know.

Cheers!

Shep, it is true from what news stories are telling. That doesn't mean he necessarily stole from you, though I find it hard to believe that he will treat you or anyone differently. Keep an eye on your quarters, cash, and your gear.

Totally man, that news story seems pretty true. But some of the other things were not sure of. Maybe i am just hoping that none of this is true because i became pretty good friends with the guy and trusted him a lot!

Ryan is indeed a very charismatic guy ,and the way he spends money and him never has to work make you think he's got enough cash to last him a long time.

Ryan did send me two facebook messages after my commenting on his post. In the first message, he said he " happened to have found my cams at the bottom of his rope bag" in the valley. Which is total BS since I haven't been taking those cams out of my room in the past few months, I've been climbing with only my double rack of C4s instead. In the next sentence , he said sorry for hijacking them. In the second facebook message, he got angry and start accusing me of doing the same thing to him, saying all his gear are missing because of me, and warned me that he's going to "expose" me the same way I did to him. Saying "after all he has done for me" , that's how I treat him. Which is ridiculous considering he hasn't done anything for me.
I'm glad you have a good experience with Ryan.I met Ryan 8 months ago and I enjoyed climbing with him the first few months I met him, then he left for Indian creek without a word or returned text, that was last time. A few weeks before he disappeared last time, I let him use my van to move his stuff from the "recovery center" he was in, to a storage unit and he did return the van to my place before disappearing ..... Too long a story to recount but I'm glad you never had to see his dark side.

That sucks man. Ya well I thought I'd chime in with what I knew. I just don't want to start taking sides and turning on a friend because of some shit I see on MP Ya know. Sorry all of that crap went down though. Not a fun story to hear about someone you really like

I also purchased gear off of him around the same time (4/14) gear seemed to arrive just like he advertised.

By this point, I'm sure it goes without saying, but...I'll fight this Ryan guy and anyone he's stolen from, at the same time, for $13.75/hour.

I'll even throw in the people who browsed through that gear at the yard sale for no extra charge.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
