Is this the gear you reported taken from you in Moab a few days back? It might be worth your while to contact the person listing it and try to get it back from him. From the way you tell the story, it's conceivable that the person selling the gear honestly thought it was abandoned. You probably won't get it back without paying something, but it's worth a try.

Hi, I'm sorry for equivocating last night. This is gear that was abandoned at a storage unit I had in Vegas. Through an unfortunate series of events I was unable to get it back. The guy may have legally bought it at auction. Yes, I am the guy who had a lot of gear taken at Indian Creek. The two events are related but indirectly. It would have been more appropriate for me to simply encourage folks in Vegas to just offer this guy a couple hundred bucks and perhaps get a crazy deal on a half dozen pairs of Miuras, three Arc'terx harnesses, loads of slings/biners, 20-30 draws and a whole bunch of other stuff.

Needless to say it has been a really sad and unfortunate month for me and my gear. The guy may well have legally bought the gear at auction for pennies on the dollar. I think I was dismayed more than anything yesterday evening in asking for help. Somebody might just be able to buy it for dirt cheap as he clearly doesn't really know what it all is. So,yes, I encourage anybody in Vegas to go offer the guy pennies on the dollar and get the gear as I cannot. Thank you all.

Somebody dragged it in to his house. Use your head. Asking people to help buy your stuff back is weak, man. Deal with it. It's your problem. Buy what you can with your own money. Still, hope you get it back. Peace.
Thanks. I don't know how he got the gear. Please see my post moments ago re: asking for help. I would only like to encourage somebody to buy the gear if they want. No need to even let me know.

I can't afford to buy it back from him or even get to the place. Just go buy it and use it.

I think he was actually pretty clear about the situation.

Can someone paint the complete picture of what is going on here? This is the guy that claims someone stole all of his stuff from his campsite, correct? Then he says someone is selling his stuff at a garage sale, but it's not the same stuff? So which is it?

Sounds like a dirtbaggers perfect storm. Tragically had all of his stuff stolen in Indian Creek. Then hadn't kept up on his payments for his storage unit where he had the rest of his stuff, which got auctioned off.

Hope things turn around for him.

Might want to get that '78 Dodge van and keep it running. Put a locking metal storage bin inside for your gear. Renting storage or keeping things at someone's house is a drag. Hell, renting an apartment is a drag.

OP's real name is Ryan Levihn Coon, we used to climb together when I heard from some rumor that he bought gear from people on MP without paying, I still don't know the details but I heard he changed his MP user name to the current one after that..... I gave him the benefit of the doubt and was still climbing with him and treated him like a good friend, if not like a brother.I let him crash at my place, use the shower ,shared foods, drove him around town for his need...etc. Two days ago he left for Yosemite to aid climb the Nose with another guy named Jack (the have aided Moonlight Buttress in Zion together before that) , when I noticed 4-5 of my almost new metolius mastercams , which are the only mastercams I have other than the 00s , are gone from my rack, among my belay gloves on a biner , windbreaker and other things in my room. There is no reasonable explanation for the disappearance of those gear since they were always in the same spot and never moved. And he's the only person who's been to my room recently. I also noticed that OP would steal all my quarters I left in a spot in my room , I let that pass also thinking he must need beer money really bad. I wonder if other's have met the guys before or lost gear to him in some kind of encounter/transactions ?

sounds like the kind of guy who convinces himself that he is just borrowing stuff, frontal lobe injury victim by any chance?

Damn Rico that sucks.

He was pretty active on MP about a year ago before disappearing after some bad transactions. I don't have time to search and find the posts but a few others have met or worked with him and posted some experiences on the forums.
