Iceland Ice Climbing

I'm looking for some beta on ice climbing in Iceland. Flights and packages out of Denver are pretty cheap, and my partner and I would love to take a trip there. I don't know much about the area, though. My birthday is in January, and I would love to go then. What's the weather like then, and will that be a good time for climbing? Are there any guidebooks or places I can check for info? He leads WI4 and we are comfortable with glacier travel, so we'd have fun going out to explore on our own if we had an idea of where to go. Thanks!

I am heading to Iceland this summer mainly just to sight see, but from the research I've done for my trip, it appears most of the ice climbing is glacial ice climbing. Also, I imagine the weather in January will be miserable. Cold, wet, and dark for mostly 24 hours a day. Pick up a travel guide book to Iceland and use google. There are guide companies there that do climbing trips.

Yes, I've certainly been googling quite a bit to find out information, and it does yield plenty of guided tours. Though I guess what I was getting at by posting on MP was trying to find out other climbers' opinions and experiences on my proposal of a January trip. We are experienced enough of climbers that we wouldn't want/need to pay for guides, and I'm looking for some info on areas or routes others have climbed there? There doesn't seem to be any guidebooks available that I can find. As for the weather, we expect it to be cold (and from my research it doesn't look THAT bad, seeing as I'm from WI), but I'm curious as to other's experience there. We figure it'll be better than an expedition, because at least after a day of climbing we'll get to come back to a warm hotel room to dry out and eat real food...

The pictures look amazing for ice climbing there! Having a hard time ascertaining if its a winter season thing though. And if it isn't, I wonder about Scotland or Norway (though all are super far North!)

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
