Where to park in Index and not to get robbed?

Somehow I'm under the impression that the town is filled with car robbing transients. Is it a myth or reality? How is parking overnight? What places are safe?

Good places to eat also will be appreciated.

Generally if you park at the camping area by the river your car will be fine. There isn't really anywhere to eat. The rafting place has a little cafe with pastries and stuff, and if you drive a few miles down the highway Zeke's has good burgers. Farther down in Goldbar/Sultan there are more options.

It has happened in spurts over the last few years, your best bet is to look at the Facebook Group "Climb Index" to see if there have been any breakins recently before you go, if so park in town or by the river. There was an arrest last year of someone who was vandalizing/breaking into cars, and since that point an increased police presence in the area. I have climbed at Index over 50 days in the last year and a half and have not been broken into once, plan accordingly and dont leave your valuables visible.

The index bakery is good stuff if you're into that

I camped at the site by the river for a week straight and none of the cars in that lot were touched. There were like 5 break ins that week at the climbing parking lot, though. This was back in September.

Notice how the OP has not commented again on this thread. That is because she (Elena) has moved on to a new username, W. Mart, and doesn't really care about this thread or responses to it.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
