Poor Planning: Climbing Around Red Rock Rendezvous

So my friends and I have been planning a trip to climb in Red Rock at the end of March. Unbeknownst to us Red Rock Rendezvous was planning the exact same thing.

Are there any tips (especially on locations) from locals on how we can best avoid the large crowds and event entrance fees but still climb some great routes and problems over that weekend? We were hoping to do sport on Saturday and boulder on Sunday. I would greatly appreciate your input!

Here's a list from their website of the crags the events will be at

Climb harder and/or walk farther. Getting up earlier can't hurt, or climb at night:)

I've been there a few times during the RRR and have not participated and haven't really had a problem. Like the above said, go for a walk and you will find free routes. The "classics" will be busy, but they always are. It's a big place

Yes, I have been on some zero star (handren guide) routes that were fantastic. I think it is a conspiracy!

The St. George area has some fantastic sport climbing. It's a little over an hour from Vegas.

I found myself in the same scenario os you. Found this on the rendezvous website.

For the Red Rock Rendezvous clinics, most of the proposed clinic sites will be on these crags located within four major areas within RRCNCA:

First Pullout: The Fixx Cliff, Dog Wall, Tuna & Chips Wall, Meat Puppets Wall, Bermuda Wall, Mark's Beginner Crag, Mark and Jake's Area
Second Pullout: Sweet Pain Wall, Black Corridor, Great Red Book Area, The Sandbox, The Magic Bus, Sun City, Bewitched
Sandstone Quarry: Guide's Wall, Mass Production Wall, Wake-up Wall, Avian Wall, The Trophy, The Hall of Fame, Frictiony Face Panty Waist, Split Infinity, Nevada Book, Spikes and Twine, Sub-America Crag
Willow Spring: Ragged Edges Cliff, The Case Face, Black Tract Area, Outhouse Wall, Karate Crack Area
These crag areas provide a wide variety of face, crack, bolted and non bolted climbing, one and multi-pitch routes, ranging from 5.3 to 5.12 plus. There WILL be something for everyone!

The boulders back in the canyons see little traffic so you will probably be good with those. Sport climbing might be more difficult to find.

Hey all! Thanks for the tips!
As a recap we did both sport and bouldering at Kraft and didn't run into any RRR traffic, it was a great trip, and were blown away by how great Red Rock is

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
