Come on out and help us clean up after those who trash our mountain. This is a great way to be involved with climbers who believe in giving back. It's fun and after a the clean-up you can still get a good day of climbing in!

I must be out of touch

Who is CASA, how long have they been around, do they meet?

Does Casa do anything but pick up non climber garbage?
Bolt replacement and Anchor "clean-up" would be of great value to climbers. Trail maint would be use-full.

Securing free camping is probably something that all user groups should be working on.
Re-opening Lizard rock access would be nice.
Hopefully the clean-up efforts will help. Thanks for the efforts.

Hi Brian,

I'm happy to answer your questions. We are a bit new, it's true.

CASA - Climbing Association of Southern Arizona - is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that advocates for local climbers through stewardship, education, and partnership with land managers. CASA has been incorporated in Arizona since Jan. 30, 2015.

As for meetings, we don't have general assemblies. Directors meet as specified in the bylaws, and "Teams" meet together, composed of CASA members, to tackle various board-sanctioned projects. At present, CASA has the following teams: Stewardship, Education, and Fixed Hardware Replacement.

Our Stewardship Team organizes Adopt a Crags (including route stabilization and erosion control work) and clean-ups (where, yes, we pick up all the garbage we can find, including non-climber trash). Our Graffiti Removal project also falls under this team.

Education is putting together a proposal for offering classes to local climbers.

Fixed Hardware Replacement is working on a proposal to systematically document faulty/old gear, and gear that has been replaced, and is looking into bolt-pulling equipment. PM me if you'd like to be put in touch with the folks heading this up.

CASA currently has not appointed a team to work on camping. All members, supporters, and interested parties are welcome to contact us with ideas for new teams or projects. Questions and thoughts are always welcome.

Stop by our Facebook page for more info :)

Cheers,

Lora
CASA Director
