I've never climbed in the St. George area, but I'm excited about a trip I have coming up in the next couple of weeks. My truck doesn't get awesome gas mileage, so is the access road to the cathedral (and camping nearby) more or less accessible with a small car? My buddy wants to take his Prius (no jokes, I know), but I want to make sure we can get around without any issues. Any other beta on camping? Thanks!
Thanks Leif. Any other comments on camping? Is camping more or less available at the parking area, or do you drive up various washes (and would therefore need some clearance)?
You can easily camp at the parking area (as long as all the spots aren't taken). I'd recommend looking the area up on google earth and then searching for what looks like a good place to camp, that's what we did until we found our favorite spots.
Yeah for sure, I've been scoping Google Earth. I just know that sometimes those desert washes are rough going and don't want to be hosed in a small car. If there's typically plenty of camping at the parking area it shouldn't be a big deal. We're coming in on a Wednesday.
