A car had its window smashed today (Sat 3/7/15) at the popular pullout on Rt 23A (Asbestos Wall and Buttermilk Falls access). Hope this isn't the start of another rash of incidents. The usual warnings - keep valuables out of sight etc etc.

Guess there was another break-in at a different (Palenville?) Catskill lot today, same style. Facebook discussion with an account of a suspicious white male wandering around parking areas the past few weeks, appeared under the influence of drugs or perhaps mentally ill. That's all I know since I'm not directly involved, just passing it along so people take this risk seriously.

Yep, some people who's mother's clearly smoked crack (or some other illegal substance) while pregnant decided to break into my partners car as we descended down from Viola Ravine. We were about 10 minutes away, but I saw a car pull up. Brake lights on. Thought it was weird. They pulled away shortly after. Didn't actually see it since it was almost 10pm at night.

It was a smash and grab. They didn't rummage through anything. we had a woman purse, climbing gear, and snowshoes in the back nicely packed into two or 3 big northface expedition duffles.

Unfortunately, I left a man purse in the front seat. All it had was climbing printouts, my alpine club membership, a cheap Leatherman Wingman, some phone accesssories (extra batter, cables, a bluetooth dongle).

Wallet, keys, and money were not in it, thankfully.

Lesson (relearned) keep stuff out of sight. I did walk the road looking for it (since they will usually toss the evidence) but my guess is they were perplexed that they stole a bag of junk and took it home to see if there wasn't something hidden in it.

That last break in was my car, right in the pull off for Hillyer and viola. Nothing stolen just a big bill for a window, I suggest unlocked doors and no valuables inside! bummer!

That would make 5 in the last 2 weeks. :-(
