Drive more, work with assholes. Unfortunately, the US wages are stagnant for a few reasons. People can't afford to leave their benefits (cobra is freakin expensive, so you better be getting a big raise and quick benefits if you have a family), they are stuck in their mortgages (selling a house isn't always quick, easy and profitable), and fear of losing stability. Most Americans work to pay off a car they use to drive to a job that keeps them from enjoying the house they are paying off. Some people realize that impacts your free time and enjoyment of life and choose to make a little less at a job they like with flexibility they want. Andrewww seems like that sort of guy. Kudos to him.
Maybe you missed the post where Andrew writes the words " I could have said it better".

Sorry I left you hanging about today. Im in Baltimore. I had to get back to sitting around all day doing nothing making big money. Maybe we could meet sometime this summer or next winter. I'll show you a couple routes that will blow your mind... Just don't write about them on here.

You want the guy who's responsible for your pension to make minimum wage? that will motivate him to perform at his highest level?

You know I just writing some positive words about you right before this. Funny Im replying to you.

I do treat my employees well but that's so subjective right? What one guy dreams of another is steamed over wants what I have and feels he should have it. I pay my people a few dollars more so they're happy and don't think about jumping ship. I buy new trucks every 200,000 miles. I buy Kirby Morgan super Lites and got rid of the death pots. I'm always loaning money, bailing outta jail and giving guidance through life.

Is it enough? Do they work harder than I do? Am I going to burn in Hell now that I'm a 1%er? Ask the communists. I'm not going to apologize for sitting in my office when I'm in Baltimore chatting with you guys all day while my crews are out there working.

20Kn, I was laborer 20 years ago and I can tell you I had much easier than I do now. Just cause I'm using my brain instead of a shovel doesn't make it any better.

You are not intimidated to put your cards on the table and not wishy washy scumbag like most of them. Keep doing the good deeds to those who work for you and never ever forget your proletariat roots. Remember you cannot keep it unless you give it away. One day at a time. And get them some kind of health coverage for God's sake. That shit is brutal on your system.
President of the US? I hate oweing people favors

. You would be surprised at how guys don't wanna pay half or even 25% of their health insurance. Before the Obama drama the younger guys saw no value in insurance. Some asked if they could get a raise instead. Single payer system would have been better than the half ass compromise we got now.

That shit is brutal. I had back surgery two years ago. The doctor said the injury wasn't from Mtb crashes but from being a laborer.

Amen. I think the Dems have to work towards that with the idea that single payer gets the whole insurance issue out of being an employers problem. Widget makers should stick to their specialty, not worrying about dealing with health insurance. Conservatives should be able to get behind that idea. As it is now the system is absurdly complicated and opaque (of course that makes it easier for people to suck more money out of consumers)

When Hillary proposed a healthcare system (while Bill was president), the Republicans countered that single payer was the only way to go, which of course is anathema to them now. Politics. Most of the right's early talking points in opposition to universal coverage came directly from the health care industry. If you can track it down, find a Bill Moyers interview with Wendell Potter, a former health insurance insider, who leaked a lot of policy information after leaving the industry. Very telling stuff.

I don't think this thread is going the way the OP expected.

I've always had great service and resoles with R&R, good luck giving someone a part time labor job in Boulder.

Yeah, who do they think they are, advertising a job opportunity is this political discussion? Now, back to the government "helping" people...

I wanna know where r+r stands. Completely unregulated free market, or communism? It must be one or the other! Tell us!

1) One could say the same about lawmakers with respect to medicine or economics.
2) I am all in favor of detnagling health insurance from employment. But let us not forget how it got so entwined, which brings me back the the first point...

Just wondering if anyone knows the best way to get in touch with R&R, I always prefer to call but for the life of me I can't find their phone number, any ideas?

Sorry, wrong thread. Why do R&R posts turn into threads that are much longer than they need to be?

For a rubber glue sniffing teenager with foot fetish the offered position would be a good find even for a below minimal wage. This is appropriate site to advertise though. Good move.

They got tangled originally when businesses offered health insurance as a benefit to attract workers. It then became expected.

This post is a great example of why MP forums are what they are.

Of course, Hellanor showed up with inane comments, the entire thread rapidly got way off topic (sometimes intelligent discourse/sometimes not and semi-interesting but way off the OPs topic), name calling and angry posts, Adam Burch talking about fighting someone, etc, etc

Guess nobody has to read this stuff but I wish the MP forums were more about climbing and less about bored people spouting off, trolling and arguing...

Heard minimum wage is going to be increased to 12 an hour. Maybe then employers wouldn't take advantage of young kids who are just trying to earn a living like the rest of us. An employer offering 10-15 hours a week is just looking out for there best interest so that they won't have to offer benefits. Pretty bummed to see the original post..won't be sending my 5 pairs that need work to r&r. Heard there is a better resole place in Denver..anyone know how to contact them? I made more money than they're offering by mowing lawns as a kid. So eat a bag of decks rock resole

Shepido · · CO · Joined Aug 2014 · Points: 50

Did you look in some crystal ball and find the answer as to why or why not they only need someone for 10 to 15 hours a week? Certainly it is because they don't want to give out benefits.... Maybe just going out on a limb here they want that kind of help because that's all a kid in highschool can really expect to work before they close? That was certainly the case at the dry cleaning place that I worked in highschool that closed at 7pm.

I am going to send all of shoes to rock and resole. I'll also be glad while there not to rub elbows with you and the rest of your ilk that assumes to know every reason why the want to hire or is highly critical of the wage at which they offer.

On a closing note, if I were in the outdoor industry and looking to hire, I think I would avoid this place like the plague. This thread is pretty much screams, don't post your job offers here!

What Work Is
BY PHILIP LEVINE

We stand in the rain in a long line
waiting at Ford Highland Park. For work.
You know what work is—if you’re
old enough to read this you know what
work is, although you may not do it.
Forget you. This is about waiting,
shifting from one foot to another.
Feeling the light rain falling like mist
into your hair, blurring your vision
until you think you see your own brother
ahead of you, maybe ten places.
You rub your glasses with your fingers,
and of course it’s someone else’s brother,
narrower across the shoulders than
yours but with the same sad slouch, the grin
that does not hide the stubbornness,
the sad refusal to give in to
rain, to the hours of wasted waiting,
to the knowledge that somewhere ahead
a man is waiting who will say, “No,
we’re not hiring today,” for any
reason he wants. You love your brother,
now suddenly you can hardly stand
the love flooding you for your brother,
who’s not beside you or behind or
ahead because he’s home trying to
sleep off a miserable night shift
at Cadillac so he can get up
before noon to study his German.
Works eight hours a night so he can sing
Wagner, the opera you hate most,
the worst music ever invented.
How long has it been since you told him
you loved him, held his wide shoulders,
opened your eyes wide and said those words,
and maybe kissed his cheek? You’ve never
done something so simple, so obvious,
not because you’re too young or too dumb,
not because you’re jealous or even mean
or incapable of crying in
the presence of another man, no,
just because you don’t know what work is.

Incorrect answer. It was baited by tax incentive. Otherwise the employer would simply offer more salary and you'd choose your own insurance.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
