I will be in the Taos area from April 17th through the 21st I think. looking for someone to climb with and or some information. will have a friend with me who's pretty novice and he would just as soon hike.I would prefer to climb .so if I could find someone to hook up with that would be great. was wondering what places would be best to take beginner and if I could get away with leaving the rack at home? I got the impression that most of the easy lines were trad lines.

I won't be around 4/17 to 4/21 but you definitely don't need a rack for the Taos area as there is a good bit of fun, scenic sport climbing. Many of the routes at Dead Cholla Wall are accessible from the top so you can easily throw a top-rope up there. Utopian Vistas is in that same area and offers a bunch of sport routes. Drive north to Questa and belay from your car bumper on the sport routes of Roadside Distraction.
There are a number of other sport areas around too.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
