Description Suggest change

Mount Abbe is an island of granite in the midst of a giant mountain range of really bad rock. Most of the Chugach-Saint Elias-Fairweather ranges are composed of trench scrapings like the infamous Chugach Crud of Turnagain Arm ("climbing" near Anchorage). A terrible accident following the first ascent may be the reason this excellent peak remains relatively unknown.

Getting There Suggest change

This is a super remote area. Glacier landings by experienced local pilots will be necessary. However getting to the best routes may still be difficult because the landing zones are not on the steep side of Mount Abbe.

Using boats and "hiking" up John Hopkins Glacier is really not possible because the glacier is very crevassed and dangerous. Reed Inlet used to be approachable but a local fisherman from Elfin Cove is skeptical about current conditions.
