Hi

I'm thinking about moving to Morgantown for school, and would love some to hear some comments on what the scene is like there.

How's the day-to-day life in town?
Are there lots of local climbers?
Is there a good place to train?
Is it an easy place to meet people and head down to the NRG or Seneca?
Is it too college-y?

Thanks in advance!

The bouldering at Coopers rock is really good. You shouldn't have any problems meeting others if you go there.

Morgantown is a drinking town with a football problem …

coopers rock is a really good spot. I miss it often. solid rock, hundreds of climbs and boulder problems. There has been a lot of development since I frequented in the mid-late 90s...before the interwebs as we know it now. Even then I had a few email addresses for partners there. I bet finding partners for new/seneca is super easy.. Good luck. When you get to coopers rock climb some highball shit for me. used to love that

I am in a facebook group called WVU Climbing club. Although I didn't go to WVU I keep up to date on whats going on with their club and it seem like there are quite a few really cool people up there that are active and do a lot of climbing at Coopers Rock and also at the WVU climbing wall. They make trips to different places around the state regularly. So I would suggest finding them on facebook and talking with some of them, but I would say it would be a good fit.

I'm a college student at wvu living in Morgantown. It's not bad for being able to take trips to the new or Seneca on weekends or for single days. Coopers bouldering is cool but not really my scene- 20 mins from campus though. You can train at the rec center which is alright, they have a campus board and a decent bouldering cave and a sizable wall but things can get dull at times, but I guess that's similar to any gym.

It's a big school with a definite party scene, which can be quite "bro-y" but as with any big school you can find a niche of people interested in the same things and you will be alright. There a quite a few climbers of many skill, experience, and interest levels and the club fb page is a great way to meet people and coordinate trips. The club takes a few trips where they pay for a cabin every year so that's pretty cool (we're spending spring break next week at the new which will be cool). But lots of people take trips on their own- I've been to the new seven or eight times this year with people I've met while hanging out at the rec center or through friends (you should be able to find people to climb with no problem)

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
