On a bit of a road trip, and spending the night in Charlottesville, VA tonight, heading to Asheville tomorrow night. We were hoping to gets climbing day in at Linville or Rumbling Bald, but have no guidebooks or beta.

Any recommendations for destination areas with short approaches? Into pretty much everything as far as climbing goes.

If it's above 60-65deg then rumbling bald will be an oven. The gate at table rock might not be open which would add a bit of hiking...But Linville is awesome. Might check out Cedar just outside Brevard, there is enough on MP for a day and the road is open. Looking glass road (475B) is still closed per other threads

What's your definition of short approach?

most of the stuff at RB has an approach of under a mile, not too bad for these parts.

If you've never been to Shortoff mountain then this is a must. the approach is about 1 mile (uphill), but dopey duck and built to tilt are worth it
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
