Has anyone started shoveling off boulders anywhere in NH yet?

Not yet, but thinking about it. Ward, Smittie and I have a highball we have TRed but want to boulder. We were thinking with a big pile of snow below it might be sane. This year would be the year for that if any. With temperatures not so frigid I might head up.

Nice Mark, where is said highball? I am thinking of getting ou and shoveling soon, bout that time where you have to help Mother Nature!

I've shoveled out a beautiful (if it need be said) trail into the Pound that currently goes to the Smoke and Mirrors boulder. I've shoveled off the top of that, and also a small cut to Pound Crack and that V9. I was going to shovel more today but wound up hiking to bonsai for a burn on Pretzel Logic.

I'll shovel projects for anyone if they really want it dry, but perhaps a proposed shoveling party at some bouldering areas would be good motivation for the more socially inclined to get their candy asses out there and fight the good fight.

Things are supposed to be warming late weekend/early next week. Can't wait to be rid of winter.

I am getting out on monday to The Pound at Rumney to do some cleaning and if I have time I will be heading out to Blackjack to do some more cleaning. I will update how it goes.

How much snow is on the ground up there anyway?

Bouldering in Eastern MA is going to be a shit show for probably another month.

Yeah there is a bunch of snow and probably wont be able to climb, for a while. If we get out and shovel it might just be a couple weeks...

I'll bring my shovel on Monday if I see you there.

I have shoveled a little bit at Lincoln Woods and probably will shovel some more next week...

I'm getting completely stir crazy not touching rock for a couple months so am heading up tonight to camp in the snow somewhere and do some poking around and shoveling tomorrow.

I've been out to Rumney three times in the past week. Stuff is totally climbable.

And dammit all. As soon as I start a new job and can't get out during the week it starts to get warm. I'm dying up here! Living around the corner from the cliff and not being able to climb is torture.

Did a little bit of Shoveling at The Pound on Monday. We got a lot of snow off of several boulders, there is significant ice build up but hopefully removing the snow on top will help Mother Nature get rid of the rest of the ice!

Went out again today, this time I got on top of and shoveled off the Ships Prow Boulder at The Pound.

It is very climbable out there right now. You cant top many things out, but almost all the lines can be climbed to the lip. Below is the list of what I climbed, all of which seem like they will be good to go for a while.

Bang Boom
Port Face (stand and sit)
The Kraken
Barn Door
Barn Door Direct
Barn Door Direct Direct
Crimp Ladder
Whales Tale
Under Wicked Skies
Deacon Variation

This is just a limited sample of what was climbable, most things can be climbed on!! Climb season is here for those who want it :)

I'll add Pound Crack to the list, I shoveled the top off yesterday. May be a little seepy though.

Nice work. I ended up only shoveling off the top and working on my project Sunday before roped climbing at the Main Cliff; this nice 20' arete that I started cleaning in the Fall.

Rumney Project - not the one mentioned above

By the way, has anyone explored the bouldering potential much off the road further north, maybe 5 minutes drive past Stinson Lake (just past the falls)? I've seen boulders passing through, but have never hiked in enough to see if anything is worthwhile. It is the same Rumney schist.

I'd be willing to make the trek out there if you can show me what you're talking about.

Take Stinson Lake road north from the center of Rumney Village. Stay on it and drive past the pull-off for the Gem Hunter crag and continue past Stinson Lake (lake on your right). A couple minutes past the lake (roughly) the road (dirt at this point) bends to the right and crosses a bridge over Brown Brook. The brook makes some falls on the left side of the road so there are pull-offs next to the bridge (probably the best parking) I am thinking roughly in the area from here and running east, on the uphill side of the road. Maybe nothing worthwhile, but it just smelled like boulder terrain over there.

note - Stinson Lake rd. is called Tricothic rd. past the falls
