Devil's Lake Conditions

Looks like some great weather this week. Anyone know what current conditions are like on East Bluff or for the weekend?

As long as the sun is out full you will be good to go. There may be wet spots here and there ...just avoid them or climb through them.... The trail up might be icy so maybe take a trekking stick or two along.

I was up on Sunday and yesterday. The rock is mostly dry in the am, with the cracks becoming wet as the day progresses due to snow melt from above. The trail up is a bit ice, but not too bad.

I was in the bedroom wall in a Tee shirt on sunday, and then in the Brinton's area monday. Best times to gar are about 10am till 2-3pm, as by then there is water running in some cracks, Congrats was class 5 whitewater by yesterday afternoon.. So, pick your routes and time of day and you will not be disappointed.

Also, remember heading back into the bluffs post a long winter with plenty of freeze thaw conditions can and will loosen blocks. I pulled a large-boy scout killing-block off of Brinton's yesterday. If you can pull out a block with only your hands, please remove it in a safe and respectfully way as for it not to fall out some random time with a belayer below.

Surprised to see loose rock on Brinton's. That's impressive considering how much action that route gets. I will do my part if I'm up that way.

This time of year it helps to have a ground cloth or tarp to stage from as the ground can be wet or muddy or still snowy but fer sure damp....

I got out last night around 4:30pm and walked down in the dark. I was comfy in jeans and a t-shirt to start, but added a light layer or two by the end of the night. Things were much drier than on Sunday, it seems like most of the snow is off the clifftops, so maybe the "superficial" cracks will be done seeping. Anyway, there's no reason not to get out there!

Anyone know what conditions are like at the lake currently? Specificly if anyone knows if boulder topouts will be too wet or snowy to be worth it.

That block has been loose for years! You ruined Brintons!

Greg you are good to go.  Some areas on the west bluff are snowy but quickly getting good and south bluff is still a bit snowy.  Almost everything in ccc trail zone, and the east bluff South is very dry. The east bluff north will be mostly good I think too.
