Ski Eldo!
It's almost bumped out here in Ski Eldo. And now for the local ski report .....my neighbor and local weather data recorder who us been keeping records for Eldorado Springs for about 30 years has reported that for the month of Febuary 2015 Eldo received 74 inches of snow setting a new record. The 2 biggest dumps came in lumps of 26 and 22 inches respectively, the rest in smaller doses. Bring yer rock skis anyway! |

Had a fun day mixed climbing in Eldo. Unfortunately the ice wasn't very good. It's a good thing the rock was so bomber! |

Blackwalk ice, 3/3/15, 8:30am.
Probably last chance to send this beast during this cycle. It is set to self destruct in the next day or so! Go super early, alpine start or climb it at NIGHT!!!! |

Eldo was spectacular today. We just walked up the road and enjoyed the awesome views. Props to the skiers and anyone attempting the ice. |

Drew, Not sure it has a name. I believe it was first done by Jeff Lowe a long time ago. Pretty good one! |

Yeah Steve! I chose more rock gear than screws... The steep pillar was 1 swing plastic but the slab above was barely in there. 1 inch thick with 2 inches of air above the slab underneath. The heat emanating from the rock creates a kitty litter type ice. Ice picks pull right through it. That was the scariest part, considering I chose to not place a screw in the steep section below. It felt like climbing the under side of an old fiberglass dingy boat. Everything vibrating like it may just sheer in half... Luckily just enough to get me to the upper tier where I slung a 1 1/2" tree out left and got a hollow screw. Who knew the slabs could be scarier than the 4++ pillar... After the final steep section, there was barely any ice on the slab above either... |

I've seen folks on this (ice next whittle wall) since the early 80,s and know folks who have done it in the 80,s. I still think Jeff Lowe was the first to do this in the late 70's. I like the name for it provided in the link above. |
