Weekend rock strength forecast?

What's the best online weather forecast to use for Red Rock?
I fly into Vegas next Tuesday, looks like rain and possible snow. May just drive straight to Josh. Anyhow, I usually use wunderground and look for the Red Rock station. Anything else better?
Looking for a better forecast then the one I see on that site...

Lots of melting snow certainly delays dry-time.

Calling for more rain this weekend, which means more snow in the higher cyns.

I assume if it doesn't rain by Saturday it'll be safe to climb at least some places on Saturday? Also if it rains a small amount (like .1 inch), where is the best place to climb easy/moderate trad that dries out fastest and how long does that take usually?

Also if the weekend does get rained out, where is the best alternative place to climb within driving distance?

Given the forecast....the local climbing gym. Huge system sweeping the west coast.

Weston,

Cool screen shot

I looked around all the way to the Mexican border and over to Cochise Stronghold. Rain or rain and wind

Just to give everyone an idea of how the rock is drying since it snowed on Monday (2/23/15). These photos were taken at Sunny and Steep at 10 AM on Friday (2/27/15). The first is in the sand just underneath Steep Thrills, which is usually shady given the rock overhang. Under about 1/2 an inch of crusty sand is sand wet enough to compact and hold form. The second photo is a little patch of dirt where everyone usually drops their gear, and where the sun hits for most of the day. Dig down about 1/2 inch and you can clearly see the wet.

And yes, there were people climbing at Sunny and Steep today.

Due to the rain today, I assume Red Rocks will not be climbable tomorrow. I was thinking of Lone Mountain. Is there any better alternative for 5.7-5.11 sport? Or for easier trad 5.5-5.9 (that isn't sketchy rock)?

Also I was looking at Lone Mountain, and from what I can tell people have not bothered to enter in all the routes. It would probably help convince people to not climb after the rain if the routes were put on Mountain Project so that people are more easily directed to the other options. In any case, does anyone know how I can get topos/grades for the routes on the main wall? I assume that's the main wall/most popular? mountainproject.com/v/main-…

I tried calling the climbing shop to see if they sell books but it's closed already.

Don't forget "New Jack City" baby. Sport, short. free camping, few restrictions and gratis concrete picnic tables in the sites. 4WD not required. What's not to like?

I was up in the canyon today doing a trail run from pine creek to icebox canyon. Things are very wet, active waterfalls, the drainages were all very full, and there was a dusting of snow in sherwood forest and other similar elevations. It continued to spit scattered rain and hail for the two hours I was up there this afternoon. While there was a strong wind with gusts up to around 30 mph, the clouds persisted until sunset. Even with no extra rain tomorrow, I think Thursday will be the earliest day to even think about getting on anything in the canyons.

Thanks for the heads up Andy, I'm planning(hoping) the rocks will be dry enough to be able to hit Red Rock this weekend. In the case it is not however does anyone know how La Madre is fairing from the snow and rain lately? Climbable?

It rained sideways at Torrey Pines and Lake Mead about 6:00PM for about 45 minutes. Now post-frontal and some light wind. Probably frost Tuesday morning. Rodeo Wall gets sun early as does Lone Mountain. I don't see why you couldn't climb those two places. Mile and quarter walk in to Rodeo Wall.

So, I just got into town. I am guessing from reading this climbing tomorrow morning is out of the question? We were hoping to hop on Big Bad Wolf.

1. Is that out?
2. If so, should we hike in RedRock, or go to J Tree? (Something else?). I have never been to either, and we are driving from Vegas to LA tomorrow as well.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Went for a hike today with the dog. A bunch of groups out bouldering at Kraft and some climbers out in calico. Ground was still crazy wet even at the sunny spots.

Is there seriously a way we can get some sort of sign put up at popular spots? Does it have to go through BLM? Does the lvclc have any way to help with this?

I'm pretty irritated about the lack of personal accountability and integrity on the issue of climbing on rock that hasn't had a chance to dry out. I'm debating currently about going to the edge of Calico Basin with a sign, to at least put it in people's minds that maybe they should put the future of climbing at Red Rocks ahead of themselves. I'd give directions to limestone, or at the very least a voice to the person of the group who knows better but has not spoken up. I am thinking 6-10 if anyone wants to meet there and/or cover me afterwards, I'm going to Surburban Crag after that.

Ideas and comments welcome.

We only get one Birdland, no more climbing on wet rock!

I said something to the group at the pearl about how it's still wet and that a hold had broken off just recently. Guy said "rock feels dry to me and we've been climbing on it all day"

I was climbing wet sandstone yesterday and it held up just fine.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
