Let's talk about Index!

I'm traveling from the East coast next week for a work seminar and would like to check the place out. What's the vibe? Likely I will only be spending about a week in the area so if someone can shoot me a free PDF guide book I will shoot back some good karma!

Thanks,

P.S.
I also heard about the break ins and some local dudes being smart towards the climbers. My rental will be loaded with IT crap and a bunch of swag along with my prototype materials so it would be sad to run into a nuisance.

The Chalk Artist.

No access issues. The theft problem has tapered off since last year. Lots of info on mountain project in the route guide. It rains a lot here... but the last few months have provided some nice windows.

1) If you have a "smartphone", the rakkup guide may be the thing to get. Link is here on the Index Mt. Project page. I've never tried the new guide, but have heard good reports on it. Other than that and the online Clint Cummins guide, Mountain Project has plenty of good Index routes listed. The last two should be sufficient. Also, check out the "Climb Index!" facebook group.

2) Park at the river campground, just up the street towards town and on the main road. I've never heard of break-ins from there, though it could happen. But the safest place is probably to park in town, near the Bush House or General Store.

3) "The Chalk Artist" and "prototype materials" sound interesting. You sound like an interesting person to meet -- I wish I was around Index at the same time as you.

February may be the worst month weather-wise, but we always get the occasional good spell, and this season has been one of the best in many years. Good luck!

If you have a smartphone, downloading the MP app, info, and photos for the area is more than sufficient. The routes are either classic splitters or bolted lines between splitters, so everything is super easy to find.

It is worth your time to do Davis-Holland -> Lovin' Arms on the upper town wall.

At the lower walls Breakfast of Champions is super fun, Godzilla - > 2nd pitch of City Park -> Slow Children is ultra-mega-good climbing.

Model Worker is a superb face climb.

Jim Donini says his favorite climb here is Full Japanese Gardens. I've never been able to get the send but maybe you're stronger.

Leave the tape at home.

Have a blast.

Sorry Jon, I guess I should have read your post first before being redundant.

If you're not a dick, promise not to get me killed, and won't judge my enjoyment of herbs I could show you around.

Alright. Vaporizer only at the crag though.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
