Eldo Ice

yup! There was a thick hose coming out of the rotwand gully too. One of these days somebody will mix it up... |
|
I took the pic at 8:00 am and it was 14 degrees f. When I got home from work by 4:30 pm it was all gone! That wall was even more plastered a few years ago when we had about 4 feet of snow over a few days around x-mas. That was the year we finally got to ski the scree gullies off the railroad tracks and Eric and Brad skied some rad stuff off the Fowler trail next to the Bastille. Ski Eldo! |
|
It's in again, Black Walk ice, 2/27/15.
Eldo ice at 9:00am 0 degrees F. We've had 48 inches of snow in 7 days and more on the way ! Ski Eldo is happening again, you can ski some scree and talus and not die.... Maybe! |

Mike , not to worry ...the road thru town is impassable to all but residents! As a side note the mud slide above town has been skied so much it's bumped out! Now puke? |

With a little go it for mixed with a bit of caution much good powder skiing can be had at this time in eldo. I recommend rock skis and north faces(skin tack up rattle snake gulch). Come get the rare Eldo face shots! The plow job on the road and parking is awesome, Go Mike! |

Steve Sangdahl wrote:Mike , not to worry ...the road thru town is impassableFixed that for ya. That road + lift kit and/or skidsteer has effectively interchanged my ascending colon and frontal lobes. |
|
Mike, how did you fix the numerous Sink holes at the entrance to town ..... We like our sink holes it keeps the punters out. |
|
Fixed your sentence, not the road - there's no way I'd try to fix that cattywampus. I bet Don is about to bottom out his Toyota on those things, and that's saying something. |
|
TRD wont bottom out Mike. |

Don Ferris wrote:TRD wont bottom out Mike.Ugh - sorry. Bad attempt at absurd humor about horrible potholes. |

Sorry for a minor thread hijack, Steve: |

Mike, I've heard climbers complaining about the condition of the road thru town also , my usually response is "You call yourself a climber? " Once again to be clear the road thru town is privately owned and the park has no maintenance agreement or any right to maintain it. Everybody in town drives that road every day without a problem. We like the way it is just fine. Hell I've seen porche 911,s get up the damn road no problem. |

Took the old lady's family out to snowshoe in eldo today. I ran into Steve and partner (i think?) after one of their laps. It's real. Super jealous. Nice work gents, respect. Ski eldo. |

Black walk 2/28/15
This was the ice yesterday at about 1:00 pm . No sun today so it's still in ,temps didn't get above 20 f I'll try and post a pic of it today. From my house it looks bigger than yesterday! Pull down!!!! |
|
it is fatter for sure this evening. if it holds on through the warm day tomorrow it will really get cold again by tues and wed. Should stay solid then. I figure you could find a fair number of bolts to use, maybe not a total death mission. In other news the skiing is still good, not blower anymore but super fun in a scrapy ski your back yard kinda way. At least one new descent was logged during this cycle on which a real live sluff ran for several hundred feet. |
|
Nothin' like a bunch of front range rock climbers forecastin' ice climbin' and skiin'. It looks to me like one swing and all the ice climbing and skiing will all fall into the valley, landing in EDJ's kitchen, maybe even bursting the bubble. Besides, the road is so terrible, there's no way I'm going climbing in there. Also, getting to the first stick in mountain boots should be world-class insecurity. Maybe with Tommy's Dawn Wall send insecurity will be cool again and we could apply to ACE for some winter security... |

Black Walk ice 3/1/15 at 5:00pm.
Still standing! The amazing thing is that is almost touching the ground at the saddle. Low angle terrain to that first stick and then all hell breaks loose! |
