Weekend rock strength forecast?
any more info? thanks |
Rob, it's wet out here. Quite wet. Lo siento amigo. |
Been low ceiling all day and drizzling at Lake Mead and US 95. Enough to wet the streets. |
That route is pretty chossy, even in the most dry of conditions, to be honest... |
Thanks for the update guys. I was just hoping against hope that we could get down for a bit. Guess some limestone out in the utah hills will suffice |
I was suppose to climb in Red Rock somewhere between Feb 28th and March 3rd. |
It should most likely be dry by this weekend, but it looks like it could rain this weekend as well. |
Here's what it looked like in Black Velvet this morning. A little moist.... |
Given the amount of snow that fell and the forecast for the week, no way the rock is dry enough by the weekend to responsibly climb on it. |
As said above, I hope we're all refraining from climbing until the rock is dry enough again. Lets try to avoid any more broken holds(although it is inevitable some will break by climbers this weekend) |
A little snow is great for those beautiful Joshua Tree's lining the road to Black Velvet Canyon. |
Yikes, worst than I thought. I'll trade the climbing gear for warm clothes... |
I have trip planned to red rock Wednesday and had hopped to get out that afternoon and climb until Saturday. Obviously I don't want to do damage to the rock, but does anyone have a feel for how things might dry out on the sunniest exposures? I have been told 24-36 hours can be enough, but if I need to bail on my flight, hotel, car ect I would appreciate any advice. |
This site is pretty accurate for this time of year in Las Vegas, NV |
"I'd say Red Rocks is quite wet and unclimbable without breaking holds. " |
John, |
I thought it was closed for the search and rescue mission? |
Any updates on the weather conditions in Red Rocks? |
I think the calico hills will be ok by this weekend, but it might rain again fri or sat, as for the canyons, it will be awhile. "As always, if the ground is wet at the base of the crag, the rock is too wet to climb on.This is the best barometer locals have managed to figure out over the years." |
I saw a couple groups heading into Pine Creek Canyon today which surprised me. The last two days have been sunny and it's supposed stay sunny for the next couple of days. Do you think the Cannibal wall will be ready tomorrow? |
