Missing Hangers on the Lower Hamlet Wall

Original Post

Someone removed the hangers off the 4 sets of toprope anchors at the lower Hamlet. This seems really odd. Anybody know who or why? Was it:

1) Some dirtbag stole them to use on their prog.
2) Ethical statement
3) Some other reason

Kind of a bummer going into a busy weekend, just means other popular crags will be more crowded. Hopefully I can get time to replace them this month.

Cheers,

Doug

By hangers are you referencing the red sling and carabeaners that hung over one of the tops on lower hamlet at one point?

No - by hanger I meant the hanger that goes on the bolt that you clip carabiners through.

Nah man, those are wangdanglerz, hangers are more like klingons..... But seriously, after installing some new hangers, use a centering punch to piss up any exposed threads on the stud.

Did you check in the Doritos bag next to the tree?

Hey Doug,
I’ll offer to procure and donate hardware (since you seem to be willing to install them, as time allows).
I haven’t been to hamlet in a while, but from your description, I’m thinking eight of
these

please let me know if you'd be interested.

Those single ring hangers are not that great IMO. Get the double ring ones. 1/2" versions are on sale at Fixe for $7.50 each right now. fixehardware.com/shop/ancho… Look around and you should be able to find 1/2" SS Powers 5 pc bolts to use with them for a reasonable price.. or better yet, fire in some SS glue-ins if the rock is sand or limestone

to add something of value as the feces fly. I am heading down. I have glue and wave bolts who wants them to fix the problem?

It could be theives, but I do remember at 5.8 on lower hamlet having some realllly burned through hangers, someone may have thought of them as a saftey risk(I don't think they were at that point yet) and removed them? I can't see why someone would steal the lower hamlet hangers

Would you guys please go and have a snowball fight and take your bickering elsewhere instead of crapping all over MP. You have become as bad, if not worse, than Trollenor.:

Whoa.

That hits deep.

I'll remove the nonsense from this thread. No promises on future behavior.

Walked up there while I was hiking about yesterday to see what was up.I suppose it was wishful thinking the culprits conscience had forced them to return/replace the hardware. Unfortunate. Kudos to whoever invests the time/effort to replace them.

How much were the bolts on the last pitch of CC?

LOL

EDIT: my apologies if those were personal and not ASCA hardware used on the retrobizzle.

Gas and food for myself and two long-suffering partners, $20-30. Red Rock yearly visitors pass? $30. Two ropes and rack and all tools to install bolts and chop old ones? Couple grand. Missed day at work to get it done, a couple hundred dollars plus Union benefits. The respect and friendship of Jorge and Joanne, and my enjoyment upon hearing that Joanne and her son climbed the route to check out my replacement work shortly thereafter and were thrilled? Priceless. Adam, as a nonlocal, your persistent trolling on Nevada forums makes you seem desperate and weak willed. However, I invite you to come to Red Rock and volunteer your time to do what you have so much time to criticize. Put up, shut up, or keep saying "LOL" as if that were a substitute for coherent thought, having a point, or being a useful human being. Your time, your dime, your prerogative as to what your legacy will be.
I think we're talking about two different things - don't get me wrong, I do enjoy your list of things and dollar amounts. Fascinating stuff. The subject of our discussion seems to have gotten a little off, I'm referring to going straight up the face when the last pitch zigs left and then up to the anchor. I'm pretty sure those got chopped, non?

As for your non-local "point", let me be the first to say: LOL. I have many friends in your hood, and I climb there as well. Not sure why you have to actually live in the pit of despair, in order to frown on bad climbing ethics there.

Again, I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty dang sure I'm not

winky face

$18 apiece for 3/8"?! That's crazy. You should be able to find 1/2" SS Powers 5 pc with Fixe 1/2" SS hangers for abt $11 pretty easily, a little more for extra long ones, cheaper if you hunt around a little or catch a sale.

Fixe Hardware will be a start for better prices. I check them regularly for sales as he sometimes drops the prices a lot to unload stock or has bolt/hanger combos. For instance, Fixe SS 1/2 Double Ring Anchors are on sale now for $7.50 instead of $14 (click on the item to see sale price if there is one. Often still shows regular price at first.) Powers SS 3/8 x 3 1/2, 5 Piece Bolt #R5914 are regular price $5.95 each. Upgrade to 1/2" and it will still be cheaper than what you paid.

I like supporting Kevin (the owner) He has been a great supplier to the climbing community for years. (I just wish he would stop selling that non-stainless or plated crap also though)
