Description

Dizzy Rock is the most prominent formation in the campground area. It is clearly visible from the group campsite looking southwest, where it delineates the Left Hand and Middle Fork drainages.

Scrambling to the summit of Dizzy Rock (via the Left Hand Fork trail) is a popular outing with local students and families, and at some point a pair of steel pipes were set in concrete on the summit, making it easy to pick out.

The rock on the sheer 300-foot north face is generally mossy and deceptively steep, and of a fairly similar quality to other areas in Maple. Routes here follow strips of clean stone up through the moss. At the time of this writing (Spring 2012), only two routes exist on Dizzy Rock and are very seldom traveled.

Getting There

Approach the routes on Dizzy Rock by walking up the Left Hand Fork trail. After crossing the foot bridge, a small stream must also be crossed. Immediately after this crossing, veer right and uphill on a faint trail heading toward the base of the wall. Skirt the base of Dizzy Rock to reach the routes. Total approach time is less than five minutes.
