Group Camping For Red Rocks

Hey guys, I'm currently looking for a location that can host up to 30 people for camping near Red Rocks. With the BLM's new guidelines regarding permits, we are not allowed to stay on the group campsites right in the park. I am aware of the campgrounds ran by the US department of agriculture, but as it is about an hours drive every day, I was looking for something closer.

Anyone have any suggestions?

This is what I have discovered as well. It's unfortunate, but because of the new rules requiring a permit for groups has really put a huge road block on the option for the group campsite. They only issue the permits once a year in the fall of the prior year, thus I have missed our groups chance to get the group campsites.

I really feel this new rule hurts attracting climbers to the area. I understand they do it to minimize the impact that people have in the area, but I also feel that of all the people that come to Red Rocks, climbers are generally some of the most environmentally friendly people.

Correct, thanks Dave. I was just about to post that exact thing. The only way our group was not in compliance with this is that we are a climbing club through our school, so to them we are an "organized group". they also informed me that becuase we posted on our facebook club wall that we were planing on going and using that page to organize our trip, they considered that "advertising". So all in all we were denied. I understand their concerns, but were just a group of young students who want to spend our spring break doing what we all love, rock climbing.

I definitely did not notify BLM that we were an organized group, I tried to get past their red tape as best I could. It appears that they are doing their own investigations with reservations. In hindsight, I should have used a private payment method rather than my schools account, but now I do not want to risk having someone else reserve a sight using their card due to risk of them finding out that we are still the same group as they have already threatened me with a felony charge for fraudulating my reservation application.

Did you check the state park near First Creek? Spring Mountain State Park I think. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

I did look into it, but they don't allow any camping. Thanks for the input though!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
