Description
This formation sits out in the open flats just west of the main Comic Book approach trail, about 250 yards from the Barker Dam Road. As you are walking south from the parking area toward the main Comic Book area, this is the first formation to the right of the trail, easily identified by a turret-like summit block.
The northeast face of South Dakota Dome gets morning sun and afternoon shade.

Getting There
Park on the Barker Dam Road, at the Comic Book Pullout parking area, which is .4 miles east from the Echo T junction. Walking south on the marked Comic Book area main trail, South Dakota Dome would be the first rock formation to the right of the trail, with a distinctive, turret-shaped summit block.
The best approach is to simply walk in a straight line from the Comic Book Trailhead parking area, a distance of about 200 yards.
