Looking to add some Tallulah Routes to the database...need partners

FYI TALLULAH CLIMBERS. At the end of March there will be 3 homebrews ready for enjoying. Chocolate Stout, Whiskey Barrel stout, and a Pilsner. My place is an easy walk to the Gorge. There is plenty 'o room to crash. There will likely be a fire, guitars, midnight lake paddles, and all kinds of other shenanigans. If that sounds like a good weekend to you, shoot me a PM or give me call so I have some idea what to expect. Thanks to all who contacted me about getting on some routes.
Here's a question to ponder.......what would it take to get the Upper Buttress overlooking Hawthorne Pool re-opened? Would it be worth the effort? It looks amazing. It seems the approach is the hangup in the eyes of the DNR. I've been taking one of the interpretive rangers climbing a good bit so there may be a new avenue for this type of appeal.

For s**t's sakes guys. Maybe things have changed, but when I left down there no one climbed at Tallulah anyway. It was too SCARY. I do remember Stretch as being one of the best routes there, meaning one of the best around. Glad to hear it still gets done. Take your nut tool to dig it out.

Oh yeah, people don't climb with nut tools anymore, cause they ain't got nuts.

Shannon's in no danger of losing this friend. I ain't worried about him shivving me. I just don't want to cuddle up with him again. It was real, real, cold on Repentence that time.

I was under the impression that all walls except the Main Wall were considered off limits for climbing by the park. It is good that these other walls are mostly out of view of the park office and tourists viewing spots, but you are still on park property. I could be wrong about the classification, but it was passed on to me by a local climber that had been taking up some of the hardware updates. If that is the case about those other walls, when you add the routes to the database make sure you explain that it is all for historical purposes.

On another note, as an avid beer drinker and Tallulah enthusiast, I would be happy to join you there Will.

You are correct Tom. As of today, the Main Face is the only location that the DNR will issue climbing permits for. This is one of the reasons it seems prudent to raise more awareness. I'd love to take my son climbing in Tallulah Gorge one day and it seems the more voices involved the better our chances of maintaining a working relationship with the park service.

Will, recently I raised concern about the restrictiveness of access to the SCC. It seems like I am not the only person that has noticed how they are not letting people down there as frequently. They are judging closures after evaluating the tourist side, which doesn't see sun this time of year. There is supposed to be a meeting in the near future. I know Chris was a part of that.

My comment about the other faces not being open is just to use discretion here when discussing going over there.

just to be a pirate, one of the saddest things that has happened in the last 20 years is that anyone gives a crap what the man says about where you climb. just saying...

It would be nice if the Access Fund could weigh in as well with their bag of tricks. Personally I'm planning a very basic trail day over there in conjunction with the park manager in an effort to get a good line of communication going. The park is climber friendly to a point. As for the Man, I'm with ya there, but for me personally I have to live here. On top of that, the 175 dollar fine that comes with climbing without permission is too steep for my budget and wouldn't want to risk being asked not to return to the park in my backyard.

#1 I'd like to join the festivities in March.

#2 Not sure if anyone ever nailed up the thin seam next to heaven and hell. I did it after doing heaven and hell. A3. It's name is called Georgia Park Service Sucks.

#3 Someone chopped bolts at Laurel Knob? Are you kidding me? That place needs more bolts, not less. Dude....

#4 Not sure what pappy is talking about, but Tallulah used to be an awesome place to climb before the piece of shit obama but licking communists took it over. And the rock slide is the bomb.

Also, putting together a trip to cochamo valley in Chile in December or January if anyone is interested. Hopefully I'll be settled into my new place in Chile by this summer.

Beavis, you were hiding in MT, but when the CCC bought LK they put in a new route committee to limit and approve new routes. Of course, I'd been climbing there for only about 15 years before that, and Shannon much longer, and we both thought that was absurd and antithetical to everything climbing is about. I was busy, but as Shannon is prone to do, he did something about it, and he and Wayne put up many new classic routes without asking no one's damn permission. The CCC in it's wisdom turned around and chopped them. It was quite the s**t show there for awhile, but the CCC came to their senses (and make it clear I've got friends on that side, too) and bagged the route committee thing. Finally. I think most of the routes that were chopped have since been replaced, some by 'approved' parties that I guess they think got the FA. Right.

Actually, the state took over Tallulah well before Obama, I'm thinking Clinton? Anyway, it is an awesome place, but it was much better when it was GA Power land, even though you had to walk a lot farther.

Will,

Props for the good intentions and peacemaking efforts, but beware the perpetual shit-show of southern climbing politics. I guess that's the way to describe it. This crap is exactly why I head west every summer. Jesus.

You asked for help with routes and the MP database and get decades old feuds rekindled instead. DoubleJesus.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
