Las Vegas climbing areas for family trip

I'm heading down to Las Vegas on a family/business trip in early March, and could use some recommendations to help navigate the 1 billion routes down there!

The perfect climbing area would have the following:
- High quality single pitch 5.11 sport routes for me to project.
- Fun single pitch sport or gear routes (less than 5.10) to put up as topropes.
- Decently flat base area for children to play.
- Approach that a 4-year-old can handle.

What area(s) in Red Rocks or elsewhere gets me the closest to these criteria?

Pullout 1, and 2, and Sandstone quarry pullout.

Routes of all types. Sport, trad, single pitch, a few pitch… 5.2 to 5.12 whatever you want.

The areas are large, so you can do any amount of hiking to reach whatever.
Many of the approaches would be fine with a 4year old.
Many base areas will be good, some not so much.

Go explore, I think you will have a great time.
And in thinking about the 4year old, maybe check Sandstone quarry area first.
Unless someone that lives there can direct you better than my faded memory of things…

Use the Upper Hamlet wall for your family. Will be sunny 5.7-5.9 sport.

Below the Hamlet wall is the J-Wall, there are two routes there that fit the bill for you. Across from this wall about a one minute wall is Newcastle Crag, which has some cool 5.10/5.11 routes on it. This wall will be shady.

These are my thoughts.

As Andrew suggested, Hamlet is probably your best bet if you want to keep everyone happy. If you want to be a little more selfish, I would also suggest that you visit:

The Wake-Up Wall

Black Corridor

The Gallery

All of these are very workable with kids, but have their own unique considerations and challenges. The Wake Up Wall is probably the best spot (other than Hamlet) for your family to hang out. The approach is relatively short and flat. However, I believe that there are only 4 sport routes there that are sub 5.10, and only a couple of them are worth doing. The climbs 5.10 and up on this wall are excellent.

The Black Corridor is a pretty short approach, similar to the Hamlet, with a little sketchier scrambling. It's still very do-able with little ones. If you only have one or two kids with you and it's not saturday or sunday, it's an excellent spot. It's flat, sandy, and shady, but it gets very crowded and tight in there. If you have a bunch of kids running around and they aren't well behaved- don't go in there. You will just be worried about pissing off other climbers, you will probably be successful, and you won't enjoy yourself. That said, you could spend several days climbing in there. The routes are plentiful and many are excellent.

I haven't climbed at the Gallery with kids, so I won't weigh in on that one. Could be worth a look though. I hope this helps you.

Thanks guys. I'll look into all those.

Looks like The Wake Up Wall is north facing. Think it will it be warm enough in March?

He's a tough little dude, but I fully expect to carry him in or out of things. Its just a fact of life with two children under the age of 5. And completely worth the exhaustion if it means my wife and I get to climb.

Are the areas recommended in the posts above similarly crowded?

Looks like the Black Corridor can become a circus; I'll plan for a weekday to take my crew in there. Is The Gallery any better? Looks like Hamlet/J-Wall have plenty of space.

Cannibal Crag might be worth checking out. Easy approach and you avoid the urine smelling zoo that is the Black Corridor.

I don't think Newcastle is exceptionally popular.

Another option is to check out the Family Wall over on the side of Kraft Mountain. Some nice 5.8/5.9 sport lines there, and then for you wander over to the Burns wall for some fun 5.10s.

Conundrum Crag area could be fun though the base is not super flat. There seem to be more routes than MP/the guidebook suggest. You'll also get to check out some cool boulder problems along the hike.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
