Fontainbleau Feb16-20th (a little flexible on the dates)

I'm heading to paris for a week in February and was looking to extend the trip and go down to font for a few days (or more). I don't have a car but can bring a pad if necessary and can pay for gas used during the trip. I'm unfamiliar with the area so I'd love to climb with someone from the area. I'm looking to do some easier stuff (routes that I can do in a few tries to a day) so I can get a feel for the area. 6a-6c probably although I might want to check out a few 7a lines.

There is no roped climbing in Bleau, only boulders, and 7a in French sport grading is rather different from 7A Fontainebleau grading.

Bleau is a pretty easy train ride from Paris (45 mins). You can access quite a bit of climbing by walking from the train stations, although much of the more popular climbing is most easily accessed by car. It may be cheaper to rent a place in the town of Fontainebleau (and save the commuting) than to stay in Paris, but I'm not sure.

For info, bleau.info is your place. You could also buy one of the guidebooks at a store in Paris (try Au vieux campeur) -- Fontainebleau Magique is the book I have -- but that's a bit pricey for just a few days.

Another issue could be the weather. It often sucks in February, so be prepared for rest days. There's a castle in town, you can walk through the woods, and if you stay in Paris there's obviously a lot to do.

I live in Paris but haven't climbed for long time (injuries, etc). As a weekend warrior, I probably couldn't get out with you during that week. Have fun!

I know there's only boulders but I'm not totally certain on the grades here. I went to Frankenjura and did some boulders that were all 6a or 6b in the french system and the went in 3-5 tries.

Thanks for the info. I'm staying in Paris from February 11-16 and was thinking about extending the trip but if you want to just do a day thing I can free up any one of those days. Let me know if you're interested.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
