I've failed to procure my campsite early enough...Anyone have experience with the crowds at Camp 4 in June? I've only been in the valley April and May. Really wanted my wifes first trip to the valley to be low key (relaxing/calm). My experience with Camp 4 has never been calm. Thanks in advance!

If you get there early like 5am you'll be about 5th in line or so. wait around a few hours get campsite set up. maybe get in a half day of climbing. No way really around this. Unless you go and reserve a site at the pines, or sites at crane flat, but more driving. But still. Other than that it's fine. But temps often get to hot to climb there. Many locals simply don't deal with it and switch to High country if it's open.
good luck

Do you need to be IN the valley? Do you hate driving? Then camp 4 is your option, but if you want relaxed/calm/low key, good luck with that, as camp for is hardly ever that. June is especially busy. If you arrive midweek you should be able to find a nice, relaxed first come first serve site at tamarack flat or somewhere else on the way to Tuolumne. I go to yosemite with my girlfriend all the time. She likes to camp and climb but prefers the mellow camping scene with a hammock and a fire and a glass of wine, so I'm happy to drive the 30min and have a happy belayer at the cliff and girlfriend at the campsite. Just depends on your trip and your wife.

The valley is going to be hot and crowded. Have you considered Tuolumne Meadows?

Where do you camp?

Camp 4 is the worst campground within 100 miles of Yosemite for that. Camp 4 is always loud and annoying. Stay outside of the park if you want calm. Also, June will be busy just like all other times in the summer.

In the summer, I avoid the valley mostly. If I want to be close to the valley, then Tamarack flat.
If I want to climb in the meadows, then further along the 120. These campgrounds would typically be closed for most or all of June, but they have opened early the last few years due to minimal snowfall. This year is shaping up to be the same for California. The pass has opened in early May the last 3 years, and the campgrounds have been open in late May/early June.

I personally think all this talk of camp 4 being some rowdy wild west town is a bit overplayed. It can be quite nice and "always loud and annoying" is not accurate at all in my experience... but, to answer your question, it'll be crowded. So yeah, just get there early..

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
